Not to mention that if you steal x units of a product, the store loses money, but the company making it was paid for it already in most cases. And then the store will reorder x amount of that product, so to the company making the product nothing changes, stealing and purchasing is pretty much the same thing.
On top of that product is sometimes insured against theft/loss and iirc it's a tax write off too.
