It is commonly understood that his glasses are taped to his head but their frame is drawn over what is more likely therefore to be a clump of old white hair, making him bald from age and not from a fashion choice in youth. A final insult, found only if you go looking for it.

I always wondered what it was and why was it there. Like it does look like they're taped, but why? I never thought of it as a consequence of age. Thank you for opening my eyes.
