We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

This post being about plastic waste caused by cigarettes, I'm not sure why you're whatabouting alcohol.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca -5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It came up on the context of nicotine and how much people are addicted, yet i don't see the uproar of the people who throw their empties into the river or on the road.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because people were already aware of the problems there and, just based on comments, many people aren't even aware that cigarette filters are plastic.

Do you bring up cigarettes whenever alcoholism is mentioned or is this only a one-way street?

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i always bring it up when people defend it but alienate smokers

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So it is, in fact, a one-way street. It's all about smokers.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

no, im stating that people will demonize smoking which is fair, but when drinking is discussed its "socially acceptable" When are we going to start putting warning labels on alcohol bottles/boxes like we do with cigarettes?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When are we going to start putting warning labels on alcohol bottles/boxes like we do with cigarettes?

Sooner, I am guessing, than you being willing to address the topic of plastic pollution, which is what this is about.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that was never my argument, my argument was about the stigmatization only on one vice when it should be on both. I don't think my words were clear or you are not understanding that.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thank you for proving my point.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

prove what point? what are you on?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

See this?

See how it has nothing to do with addiction or putting warning on packs or anything else you've decided to bring up?

That's what I'm "on." It's called the topic.

I won't be holding my breath and expecting you to have anything to say about it. Not when you can defend the dignity of the poor, oppressed Nicotinian Peoples.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

ok. glad you future discussions must be on topic and cannot be expanded upon

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Hey, did you just learn how forums work? Someone puts up a topic for discussion and everyone discusses it! Good job figuring that out!

It's especially true in a community who's whole purpose is to tell people something you learned for the first time today and have them talk about it.

Now hopefully you can figure out why no one wants to talk about a totally different topic solely because you decide to change it.
