What is an American bread stick then? I'm imagining something horrible, probably with wrapped in processed meat and cheese or something
Not quite lol it’s usually something like this
Oh I see, wonder bread dough covered in oil and burned dry herbs.
I showed the "bread sticks" to my partner who is from Calabria and she was offended.
What do they call baguettes?
breadbat
what do you call them?
French walking sticks.
These are much thinner than baguettes and have a much softer consistency. We call actual baguettes "baguettes" but typically they're mass produced, it's hard to find good baguettes here unless you make them yourself
You can find these kind of breadsticks all over in the US, but I have lived all over the country and finding a good one is incredibly rare. I don't even think most US Americans have ever had a truly good soft breadstick.
I was raised in the US but in a closed religious community and I never had American food until my 20s and when I did I thought all of it was absolutely gross, I lived there for a while after and never came in contact with these thankfully. I thought bread sticks were what OP linked
In true American fashion, it is quite a bit wider
