Dumbed down hardware? No, the hardware of smartphones is very impressive. It is the software that is dumbed down in the sense that it takes control away from the user or operator.

You're right, I was just referring to the device as a whole. The "experience" is generally meant to be grab and use as is no tweaking/new apps or whatever so the general phone/tablet user isn't accustomed to fixing/adding/tweaking, just tap swipe tap swipe tap swipe.
