How do you make freetube automatically open?

You can use Libredirect, an extension that redirects you to privacy-respecting alternatives to websites, and update it in the settings to make it automatically open in Freetube. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/

I use LibRedirect. It can handle youtube links and redirect them to a number of frontends. It can also directly open freetube. It's a firefox extension.

You could redirect invidious to free tube

You can use any redirecting extension, if it does not support FreeTube directly, just make it open freetube://<youtube link>.
