not easy as it sounds because Whatsapp is defacto messaging app in many countries like India, brazil, indonesia etc

Yup. For plenty of places, the advice of "just stop using WhatsApp" is about as useful as saying "just don't use email"

Even stuff like 2FA codes for a lot of stuff have no SMS or email option, only WhatsApp.
