Whatever gets them votes. Actual conservatives would at least pretend to care about the economy.
Why? Conservatism is about preserving traditional values and traditional power structures not the economy.
If you actually care about the economy that means you care about progressing a more effective and efficient state for the benefit of the people. Afraid that makes you a progressive which the conservatives assure us they aren't.
Conservatism is about preserving the status quo. (As opposed to reactionaries that want to restore the status quo ante)
Not necessarily the current status quo though. Just the status quo where they have the most power.
Yes Immigrants are the problem /s
Well if they were conservative and cared about traditional values, they wouldnt have let in so many migrants.
What "traditional values" are you talking about?
We're a nation of migrants; you don't get to rewrite history because it makes you mad.
The first immigration law passed in this country was a process for naturalization; it doesn't get more traditional than that.
The UK isn't a nation of migrants, they are not America.
Someone tell the 1066 Normans they were actually born in England.
Oh, and the Romans.
Oh, and the Saxons.
Oh you mean the guys who literally invaded? I don't think you're helping your case.
Oh, I see.
You don't care about the truth.
It all makes sense now.
So when you said the UK isn't a nation of migrants you knew you were wrong?
Some people actually aren't afraid of history, to the despair of conservatives worldwide.
Also, what a fun admission that Europeans invaded the Americas. I'm sure you'll be logically consistent there.
Just to be clear on your logic, you think migrants are invaders, and that we should welcome them with open arms?
Well yeah, Europeans invaded America. Didn't go well for the natives.
No, my logic is that we have a self-selecting population of highly motivated and ambitious people who want to be Americans.
To turn them away is foolish if you care about the economic and cultural wealth of the nation.
And you still haven't clarified what "traditional values" are opposed to immigrants; even the fucking Romans welcomed people into their citizenry.
Oh, simple. Traditional values are things like basic human rights. Not oppressing women for example. Not hating the Jewish people. Not executing rape victims. Not executing gay people. Not executing people in general.
Yeah, traditional European cultures have historically been opposed to oppressing women, hating Jewish people, and executing gay people.
Nevermind that the most common slur for gay people is a reference to burning them alive, Jews were ejected from England in the Renaissance, and women were almost entirely restricted from positions of power.
Have you met illegal immigrants?
I've worked shoulder to shoulder with them.
What's your point?
Man i am this close to just blocking the reddthat instance. I dunno why but too many chuds and bad, bad fucking takes crawl out from under there
