hey i think it's worth pointing out that levittown is basically founded on being whites-only, so it's hard for me to believe this guy's dad is a sympathetic victim

Someone needs to call out the bs. Not for the idiot spouting it, but for anyone else that may come along and be roped in by it.
Likewise, I appreciate sync's tag function so I can keep track of people like that. Or people that are sane and cool, like you :)
Edit- It allows me to add short text like, idk, "unhinged tankie" or "magat" or "good human!", etc that appears next to the username on any comment they make.
i never blamed the victim. this whole post is just poisoning the well (a form of ad hominem attack) that doesn't belong on lemmy.world nor in this community.
The dude hacked his dad's head off. The son is obviously an unhinged, violent, right wing lunatic. The character of the victim is irrelevant. What in the world are you on about, again??
Also, for anyone that doesn't know, numerous other cities have had wildly discriminatory housing policies in the past against blacks. That is one major reason why generational wealth is typically lower in black families than white ones since home ownership is a major component of generational wealth building.
>numerous other cities have had wildly discriminatory housing policies in the past against blacks
levittown was a secluded suburb. it's not at all like new york and chicago. it wasn't that people there were red-lined: it's that black people weren't welcome on any street.
>The son is obviously an unhinged, violent, right wing lunatic
i thought that went without saying
>What in the world are you on about, again??
i said: it's hard for me to believe this guy's dad is a sympathetic victim.
So was Oregon. But that doesn't mean I'm going to hold someone living there now responsible for it.
levittown was built in the 1950s.
Yes, and?
According to some other sources this guy's dad was 68. Even if he moved there the day he turned 18, that wouldn't have been until two decades later.
you'll forgive me if i am not immediately sympathetic to a federal employee living in levittown.
You'll have to forgive me if I'm not immediately sympathetic to people whose first reaction to hearing that their son beheaded them is to find a way to say they deserved it.
i didn't say they deserved it. i said i'm not sympathetic.
Ok, then you’ll have to forgive me if I’m not immediately sympathetic to someone whose first reaction to hearing that their son beheaded them is to say they're not sympathetic.
of course. i think that's fair.
Fuck that. The guy was beheaded and your first thought is "he had it coming because the town he lived in used to be racist and he worked for the government".
I didn't say he had it coming
Removed, rule 3:

do you need a tissue?
I dunno I fucking hate racists and am pretty on board for violence, and even i still feel for the victims here.
Like a politician, billionaire, or something, sure ehh whatever.
