@ikidd @kde no. you cannot install multiple DEs without breaking stuff. especially different versions of the same DE. if it is even possible, i would not recommend it.
You definitely can. There is no problem on having, say, Plasma, GNOME. XFCE, and so on on the same machine, even on the same partition and switching from one to another from the login menu.
This, however, is absolutely correct. The overlapping different versions of libraries and other common software would make things very messy indeed.
Pretty much what I suspected. I was hoping there was a segregation method that was used for development/testing that I was missing.
@Bro666 well yeah, it is possible to install multiple DEs and it should work just fine. though i wouldn't really recommend it since the configs will break a lot from the DEs fighting, and you'll have a lot of redundancy because of the same utilities and apps for different desktops coexisting.. not saying it is not possible though, but do it at your own risk
Hm. Yeah, you have to be careful with that. There may be configs with coinciding names. You are right. Be careful @ikidd@lemmy.world ! Do your research.
