The problem is, in the US, both the employer and prospective employee are doing a dance of lies, and employers are always more practiced, more enthusiastic, and less hesitant liars.

They genuinely see their lying as somehow noble. The same way they view their ~~greed~~ "rational self-interest."

Seriously, just ignore the "requirements" and if the job description fits you, apply anyway.
