Valve recently released SteamOS for Rog Ally X and other devices. Anyway i decided to install it and man this is just amazing. Wake up from sleep takes literally few secs and you are back into gaming like on PS5. Because of that it is worth to do swap from Windows. Ease of use is second to none. Literally i have feeling like i own different device.

I know this is a big ask and I’ve looked this up on Reddit multiple times and have had no luck finding something similar. I have an itch that needs to be scratched and would appreciate some help. I’m looking for a game that has fluid flashy dagger or fast paced combat where you can grow into an absolute badass by leveling up getting items from dungeons or bosses. I’ve tried Diablo 4, POE2, Last epoch but I think that the isometric style and lack of movement and fluidity just aren’t giving me what I want. I’ve looked into dragons dogma 2 and while I could get it running on the deck with and fsr mod I’ve heard it’s repetitive and not the best. I’m wondering if a game like this even exists any recommendations would be appreciated. Turn based games like persona make sense but are not what I’m looking for. Thank you!

My first experience with gaming was on the Sega playing platforming games, so it makes total sense that metroidvanias would hold a special place in my heart. There’s just something about that nostalgic vibe they bring. Still, I never expected the genre to grow on me this much again.

Ever since I got the deck, I’ve mostly been playing ARPGs, and mostly Last Epoch at that , grinding out my characters whenever I could. I like it because it isn’t so time consuming and I can hop on in short bursts whenever I have 20 min. to 1h  to spend, so it really goes well hand in hand with the whole point of having the thing. Anyway, a friend of mine kept telling me to try metroidvanias on the deck. I wasn’t against it, just wasn’t in any rush. But eventually I figured I’d see what all the fuss is about.

Now, I’ve always liked metroidvanias… theoretically (just didn’t play them that much). Ori and the Blind Forest is still one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. But playing it on the Steam Deck, that hit completely different. It brought me right back to when I was a kid, playing Tetris in the backseat of a car on my way to vacation, that kind of breezy feeling. Like…you had all the control in the world, just because buttons were that close to the screen, and when you are supposed to go left you instinctively move your entire body to the left. That’s exactly the feeling I got. I totally get now why some people hyped it up so much, it just feels more personal on the Deck. I still hop back into LE now and then, especially when I don’t have a lot of time, but I don’t think anything can beat an MV in how fitting it feels to play.

After finishing Ori again, I started looking into what to play next and ended up checking out some upcoming MVs like Endless Night The Darkness Within and Aeterna Lucis. Both caught my eye, but for different reasons. Endless Night intrigued me with its psychological theme, levels representing the protagonist’s mind sounds like a great premise, if it’s done well. As for Aeterna Lucis, I already played Aeterna Noctis and really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it felt like it dragged on too much at time. Don’t get me wrong, I still liked it a lot, but I have a love hate relationship with longish games. It’s kind of like how I feel about Final Fantasy games. I adore them, but I always end up wishing they were just a little shorter.

Anyway, if you haven’t tried playing metroidvanias on your Steam Deck, seriously…DO IT*.* It’s a totally different experience from playing on a PC, and I don’t think you’ll regret it. And if you’ve got any good recommendations for Deck friendly metroidvanias, I’d love hear which are your faves

You know how you buy games during sales and then they just sit there forever? Yeah, well, apparently I own like 200 games I completely forgot about.

The other night I was laying in bed scrolling through my library and found this roguelike I bought 2 years ago but never played because I was always at my PC doing "important" stuff. Fired it up on the Deck and lost 4 hours of my life. Game's called Ocean Keeper and it's exactly the kind of chill experience that works perfectly on handheld.

There's something about playing games on the Deck that makes them feel new again. Like, I played Hollow Knight on PC and it was fine. Playing it curled up on the couch? Completely different experience. I think it's because when I'm at my PC, I'm in "serious gaming mode." I want to play the newest, most demanding stuff. But on Deck I'm just like "whatever, let's see what happens."

Anyone else using their Deck as an excuse to finally play their backlog? Or are you just installing Emudeck and playing SNES games like everyone else seems to be doing? The portability really changes how you think about gaming. It's wild.

I requested and received a refund for a game I found boring. I was playing it on my Deck, and I requested the refund from my PC. When I woke up my deck later that day after receiving the refund, the game was still paused. I unpaused and kept playing the game, just out of curiosity--kind of waiting to see if it would stop me at some point. A couple hours later, it's still going, and suddenly I'm enjoying the game. So now can I just re-purchase the game and keep playing like nothing happened?

Hey everyone!

Now that we can use Wabbajack directly on the Steam Deck, I’m diving into testing different modlists for Skyrim and Fallout 4 to help others find the best ones that just work on Deck.

If you’re new to modding or just want a modlist that runs out of the box, I can already recommend two great options: • Tuxborn (Skyrim) – Brings Skyrim up to modern standards with upgraded graphics, multiple combat styles (old-school and modern), new companions with full questlines, and several DLC-sized quests. Super immersive and runs well on the Deck. • Life in Ruins (Fallout 4) – A stable, vanilla-plus list with a ton of new content. It enhances visuals, adds quests, and keeps the core Fallout 4 vibe. One of the best Deck-friendly experiences out there.

If you’ve been curious about other modlists but don’t want to spend time testing them on the Deck yourself—that’s where I come in. I’ll be checking out midweight to heavy lists (not full overhaul monsters like Lorerim or Nolvus just yet), and next on my list are: • Lost Legacy (Skyrim) • A Storywealth (Fallout 4)

🔧 I’m running everything directly on the Steam Deck via Wabbajack—no more needing a PC just to copy stuff over! That means my videos and tutorials are made specifically for Deck users.

📺 I also launched a YouTube channel focused on modding Skyrim and Fallout 4 on the Steam Deck, called Deckborn & Vaultmade: ▶️ https://youtube.com/@deckbornvaultmade

Right now, I’m showcasing gameplay from Tuxborn and Life in Ruins, and starting next month I’ll cover two new modlists per month (one Skyrim, one Fallout 4).

📥 I’ll also have full tutorials coming in the next few weeks on how to download and install Tuxborn and Life in Ruins directly on the Steam Deck—no PC required.

👉 Got a modlist you want tested—especially for Fallout 4? Let me know! I already have three lined up for Skyrim, but I’m looking for more Fallout 4 options to feature.

Thanks for checking this out. If you’re into modding on Deck, follow the channel—it’s going to be a fun ride.

  • Previously Enjoyed Games: Goat Simulator 3, Untitled Goose Game
  • Preferred Genres: Open world (or at least with a fair amount of freedom of action)
  • Budget: No budget - will spend whatever
  • Other Notes: Looking for something to play with a five-year old boy, who doesn't really play the game, but has a blast watching me play and telling me what to do next. Needs to run smooth on the deck so we can play it docked on the TV. Watching me play Goat Simulator 3 cracks him up to the point of tears every time we turn it on, but I think he's finally starting to lose interest and look for something else. Can't do anything awfully crude or violent, and obviously needs to be fun for a young spectator.

I play Rock Band 3 often on my deck, and it works pretty well, but recently I tried Resistance FallnOf Man, and it was just a bit too rough to power through.

What are some PS3 games youve tried and got to work successfully?

I plan on getting and steam deck soon, and I'm pretty sure my mom will want to put some kind of parental control software, EVEN THOUGH I'M 18. So, is there a way to put a password or something? Maybe a code, or a mobile app?? Please help

Hi friends! I'm on the hunt for a good story rich game to sink my teeth into. I'm a huge fan of well written characters. Voice acting is a plus but not necessary. Unravelling a mystery is a blast too.

Previously Enjoyed Games:

Disco Elysium (amazing world and story)

Guardians of the Galaxy (loved the characters and voice acting)

Sleeping dogs (Jackie <3)

Cyberpunk (Jackie again <3) ((is this name cursed? poor Jackies))

Hades

Preferred Genres:

any but not big on JRPG or anime stuff (persona was an exception)

Budget:

Any

Other Notes:

I'm open to older games too.

Just bought but haven't played:

Outer Wilds

Alan Wake 1

Open to suggestions! I've played the Personas and everything Bethesda as well.

Edit:

This community is the absolute best. Thanks so much for the recommendations everyone :)
