Just picked this up on a steam sale. I can’t speak to how “good” the game is because I just started playing it, but it looks GORGEOUS and runs at consistent 60fps. I’m sure I could turn the settings up and have it run well at 30, but the game looks phenomenal by default, and runs amazing as well. Very impressed.

I'm in the UK and picked up a copy of Stuff magazine today, included in it was a little booklet aimed at gamers, I flicked through and noticed that there was not a single mention on any page about the Deck.... why?

There were multiple pages aimed at "handheld gaming", in it they advertised the Legion Go S, Logitech G Cloud, ROG Ally, Meta Quest, Pico 4 and Backbone.

Why isn't Valve pumping any cash into advertising the Steam Deck? Do they just rely on existing customers sharing reviews and suggestions?

Hello!!

I am very tight money wise, like only being able to afford rent and food and nothing more at the moment hence the ask.

I am looking for a free to play game which runs nice on the deck.

For the sake of time, here is a list of games I already play / have burnt out on:

  • enlisted
  • combat master
  • Warframe
  • CS2
  • Fragpunk
  • the finals
  • far light 84 -halo
  • holocure -marvel rivals -neverwinter -OW2 -POE
  • planetside 2
  • rogue company -split gate
  • trove

I like to play all kinds of games, grindy ones, fps shooters, battle royales, open worlds, competitive, rpgs, mmos. Basically all mainstream genres.

I’m looking for something fun and engaging with the prospect of pumping a nice amount of time into since I like to game fairly regularly.

I think this is the 7th time I have dropped my SteamDeck OLED, and I'm very impressed this thing can survive someone as clumsy as me. Not even a scratch to the screen, or a dent to any of the buttons. May as well be brand-new.

Original Title: Nearly a month since launch Broventure: The Wild Co-op! Huge thanks to the players - your support keeps our unknown indie team at 80% positive reviews. We’ve released 3 patch notes, and now it’s Steam Deck time, right?

I bought a PS5 and had a gaming PC (with outdated specs) and they were collecting dust for years.

Then on the whim I got the steam deck. Since then I’ve been gaming more.

I love how I can lounge around and play.

Sitting in front of my PC was always a chore as I already work 9-5 at a desk.

Starting up the PS5 is more fun but I’m sick of them charging an arm and a leg for games.

I kept getting sucked into the AAA games and followed the hype, buying it at full price at launch, then ending up disappointed that I wasted $70 on a game.

No fuck that, I’m done being convinced by my friends to jump on the bandwagon.

With the Steam summer sale, I can get so many games for just a few dollars. For the price of a yearly gamepass subscription, I can get so many games with $240 or whatever the fuck it is.

I’m officially adopting the patient gamer mindset. There are too many good, older games that are heavily discounted, I don’t care if I’m lagging behind 5-10 years.

Fuck paying $70 for a game. I paid $4 for Skyrim while most fools paid full price for it at launch.

Compared to the regular PC experience, of course, where a lot of the enjoyment depends on what kind of monitor you’re using (and the rig in general, but I’m referring to the visual dimensions of what you can see). And I for one don’t have one of those 31-inchers, and still play on console a lot, so I suppose the switch to the deck wasn’t that jarring for me. Maybe my poorass is just making excuses at this point though…

On to my point – and I see it brought up here and then, but I think it’s an interesting topic regardless. Especially since the deck was just “console Steam” in how I approached it. While I didn’t care to admit it at first, some games and more holistically speaking *whole genres* just feel much more tightly packed and, how d’you say it, they just hit different when you’re all comfy up in a nook with some pillows. Even better now that summer’s come, and I can darken my room, turn on the AC and just enjoy the bliss while the sun’s scorching everything outside.

For me, these 3 genres are the GOAT when it comes to how easy and smooth they feel to simply ease yourself into them and enjoy the ride

  1. Dungeon crawling ARPGs - The first game I chose to play on the deck was vintage AF, Dungeon Siege 2, and for some godforsaken reason… this thing runs better on it than on any newer PC I owned. Although much the same is true for most major new ARPGs, with Last Epoch perhaps being the smoothest now that a lot of the jank’s been smoothed out. It’s the casual glass of pure ARPG fun to Path of Exile 2’s dark & difficult approach, and I cycle between these two mainly now.
  2. Metroidvanias - They’re the methodical, story driven, one-off equivalent to roguelites in my life, and my god, are they great to play on the deck, which is turning out to be a substitute for Switch too (lol). Replayed both Blasphemous 1 and 2 on it, and slowly digging through Hollow Knight has been my way to spend the evening these days. And as any MV enjoyer, looking forward to Silksong and some other indie(r) games that I pick up on my wishlisting sprees, like Endless Night to name but one
  3. So-called “boomer shooters” - What’s there to say, really. They’re great, they’re better than AAA shooters, cheaper to boot, and the old schooly graphics just work so well on the small screen. CULTIC, Forgive me Father, Sulfur, etc. – just some ones I found flow incredibly well with deck controls
