I have to use macOS (10.14 IIRC) at school and I'm using Kate as my primary text editor. I'm using the latest release binary here.

Out of the box, three major features don't work. The debugger, the terminal and lsp. After messing around a little, I was able to get lsp working by installing llvm through homebrew for clangd and pointing the lsp config file to the proper location, because my homebrew prefix is the non-default ~/.brew/ due to a lack of admin privileges.

Terminal just crashes Kate the moment you try to open it and the macOS port of Konsole is extremely broken, so I'm not holding out much hope for that (and either way I'm happy with iTerm2), but I feel like there should be a way to get the debugger working. Basically the problem is that the debugger is built for gdb, but macOS ships with lldb. I tried installing gdb through homebrew, but couldn't figure out how to point the debugger to my homebrew prefix. Also looked like there was a way to add additional debuggers and I tried to add lldb that way, but couldn't figure it out either.

If someone has gotten this working, I'd love some help

Update: Made some progress. Found out how to get the debugger to use homebrew gdb. In advanced config, I just changed the command from gdb to ~/.brew/bin/gdb. It's still broken, tho. Won't let me select an executable to debug. I also have a clue on how one might get lldb working. Kate uses a dap standard similar to lsp for working with debuggers. lldb has a dap server called lldb-vscode, which is a part of llvm, which I already have installed. No clue how to work with the dap.json configuration to add it as an available debugger, tho. That's where I'm stuck, right now.

Update2: Got gdb working. Just had to use a full path, meaning /Users/lcouturi/.brew/bin/gdb instead of ~/.brew/bin/gdb

I’m looking for a way in Plasma to backup and sync my data from PC to a LAN Samba share on my NAS, using a GUI program.

The many sync apps (Grsync, Unison, Lucky, RealTime, Kup etc.) I’ve tried over many years, don’t let me set a remote/samba target. Most navigate locally only. I would mount the share, but nobody I’ve found knows of a GUI way to permanently mount it.

Everything else I need on Plasma has a GUI solution. Just a sync fails. I’d be grateful to hear of a GUI solution

shares are mounted via netwok and are a mix of sftp and smb via fish I think

FreeBSD has supported Plasma for a long time, but on OpenBSD, it's been a long time coming. I believe a KDE desktop hasn't been available on OpenBSD since Plasma 4, perhaps even KDE 3.

Happy Holidays everyone! (II) We reached 500 members 💰🎅🏽!

Thanks for all your support!

https://kde.org/fundraisers/plasma6member/

We are immensely grateful to all those who donated. Your generosity will keep KDE running another year.

We have added two stretch goals, one will help us fund new designs for Plasma and our apps. The other will keep basic services running, and contribute to growing our userbase beyond the FLOSS-o-verse.

Happy Holidays everyone! And thanks for all the bugs🪲🪲🎄!

Seriously: Hurrah for team bug testers! The bug #reports you are sending in are great! #Tests are thorough and insightful, and your contributions will help make #Plasma6, when it arrives in February, so much better.

Thank you for your time, have a great holiday, and keep the #bugreports coming!

With every update of #Plasma6 new issues to fix appear.. I am happy that it's evolving, following development closely (in a VM) .. #KDE #KDEPlasma #Linux #ArchLinux #FOSS @kde

Just finished setting up Arch, KDE, exclusively with Arch and AUR packages. No Flatpaks, Snaps, or Appimages. This probably doesn't seem like much, definitely not the most productive to many, but to me this took a lot of work, I'm proud of myself and wanna share that.

Got backups, both images & books / documents to my cloud and BTRFS snapshots all configured and automated. This was an all-day project after years and years of trying to learn through hardly treated ADHD.

Major shout-out to Nicco Loves Linux on YouTube for making the process of following Plasma's development so fun. I feel... oddly more connected with the projects and it's kommunity because of his content. Much appreciated!

Apologies if this post is silly, just extremely proud and happy at the moment. I'm normally a distro-hopper, but I think I've found my new home, given how in love with this setup I am. Hoping to get follow up pictures of my KDE /desk setup for the holidays.

Looking forward to 2024 being my first full-year using KDE! 💞

Hello, yesterday I tried the beta version, and found one difficulty, namely, when you press the start button, this large menu window opens, and so in 5.27.10, by pulling the edge you can adjust the height and width, in the beta version only either the width or height. I didn’t know where to write to share this, if not the address, sorry

There is this useless feature where the lock screen tells you that the account is locked for 10 minutes because of three failed attempts to log in, but then I can just bypass it by forcing my computer off then powering it back on. Then what's the point of having it? I just got a new mechanical keyboard and I don't know if it has an issue or something, but it happened twice today without me doing anything while the pc is asleep, and it is annoying AF having to force shut down my pc by holding down the power button. This might also cause data loss for me. Is there a way to disable this thing?

Thanks

Plasma 6 Beta 2 released! We are nearly there, but more testing needed.

Just in time for the Winter Holidays 🎄, Happy New Beta 🎉!

https://kde.org/announcements/megarelease/6/beta2/

After this second Beta, there will be two Release Candidates, one on the 10th and the other on the 31st of January. All these releases are **not** final, they are for testing and should not be used in production...

I'm working on a project to create an LED ring that lights up based on my active notifications in KDE Plasma. I'm wondering if there's a way to access the current list of active notifications without having to dive into the KDE source code.

Is there an existing API or method for grabbing this info? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

How does it work? I mean I have several Containments numbers like: [Containments][8] ... [Containments][23] ... I get that some are for the background of plasma where the wallpaper goes, some are for panels

But overtime it seems it gets messy, with repeated background ones and panels.

I guess I want to know how plasma interprets it, whats the logic for these IDs and why as I change my plasma settings the amount of containers increase even if I don't add more panels, screens etc.

Fedora on Apple Silicon, with Plasma and Wayland?

That's an impressive feat! Congrats to all the team!!! 🎉 😍

When we go to Konsole main menu » Settings » Toolbars Shown and check or uncheck any option, where does it get stored?

I checked ~/.config/konsolerc and it was not stored there.

I actually toggled them and checked all files in my system that were changed at the same time I toggled them and I still could not find.

My ~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/konsole/ has no files in it, both on Arch and Void Linux. I also tried creating a partui.rc file as well as konsoleui.rc to see if it would get populated when changing which toolbars are shown and which aren't but it did not work. My KDE Version is 5.27.10 on both distros.

I create a new KDE style called Brise.

This style contains some tweaks to the default Breeze style like larger and configurable border radius, a new tab style, and more.

Brise theme is yet another fork of Breeze. The name comes having both the French and German translations of Breeze, being Brise.

I can't imagine there is but I'm wondering if I am missing something. I use GeForce Now and unfortunately it does not work in Plasma Wayland (issues with input redirection). Is there any problem with logging into an X11 session whenever I want to use that but using Wayland generally?

Plasma and apps for mobile also getting overhauled for 6.

It's not only Plasma on the desktop that is getting a new version, as Devin Lin explains in his blog post,

https://espi.dev/posts/2023/12/plasma-mobile-towards-6/

developers are working hard on getting #PlasmaMobile 6 ready for the #megarelease scheduled for February.
