Hello Framework Community, I’m here to announce an exciting new beta feature we’ve just launched after hearing suggestions from our customers: the ability to share your laptop configuration and have it pre-populated in our configurator!

The code I wrote to make this happen saves some data we were not saving before and that is hard to reconstruct, so we decided to launch this for all orders with laptop configurations going forward. To use the feature, you have to have made an order for your laptop configuration starting a moment ago with some exceptions for orders we were testing with. We just flipped the feature flag to see the sharing link in your Profile -> Orders section generated by saving this extra data. This is what it looks like when your configuration was saved:

When you send the link to someone, they’ll be taken right to the configurator with as much of your configuration filled out as we can (some items may be out of stock, etc.) so they can copy your configuration exactly, super easily!

If you aren’t ready to purchase yet, but still want to share a configuration, you can use the new “Save” button at the bottom or top of the configurator to share a configuration in a similar way. This feature might also allow you to construct a sharing link for your previous configurations as well depending on if they are still available currently in our laptop configurator.

Additionally, the new Profile -> Saved Configurations section allows you to see previous configurations you’ve ordered for orders made after December 19th and for configurations you save:

We hope these features make shopping for our laptops with your friends and colleagues easier. Growing up, I loved going through online computer configurators, maxing out a configuration, or setting one up that would be perfect for the tasks I needed to complete like graphic design, music composition, or compiling code. Sharing it with others makes it even more fun. We hope you enjoy this new feature. But more importantly, we’d love to hear your thoughts so we can keep building features that meet your needs! Feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you think so we can keep on iterating and improving.

I've recently started a Paid Internship, which means this is my first real "job" that I am making decent money from.

My current laptop is an HP Pavilion Power 15 from 2018 that used an Intel 7700HQ CPU, GTX 1050 and I'm done dealing with its issues over the years.

My final semester of uni starts in March and I'm hoping to buy myself a Framework 13 before then, preferably one that I can use on the go, sit on a garden with somewhere and do stuff etc which is not an experience I've had so far because my laptpp had a max 2 hr battery life even right after a battery change.

This will be the first (and hopefully final) laptop I buy with my own hard earned cash.

My question is, should I wait around hoping for a new mainboard to come out, or get the AMD 7640? I'm open to Intel, but I think I remember the AMD one being more power efficient and mostly better in general.

I am pursuing a Masters in Software Engineering so my laptop should be able to keep up in computation power as well. (Also maybe some slight gaming so I want to get the 2.8k display. I do have a PC so this is not a gamechanger)

I replaced the stock thermal paste with PTM. I purchased from AliExpress. There is a significant 6°C temperature drop after the first change of thermal paste. However, it time passed by have a year later the temperature running under the same amount of power has increased about 1 to 2° Caused by the overflow of the thermal shown in the image. is this normal? Any solution or suggestions? thank you!

Just wondering what kind of temps you guys were getting on your AMD FW 13s (Or anyother model really)

Currently on performance mode, plugged in with the battery limted to 80%, playing music, and driving an external ultrawide 1080p display with a couple of browser windows and averaging about 75-80 degrees c

I'm about to shop for a new laptop soon and considering framework. It seems they're still selling 7840HS CPUs. It's about to get 2 years old at this point. I feel like they'd release a new gen CPUs soon. Does anyone know when it's going to happen?

I had assumed from all the marketing and coverage that FW was primarily a work of passion, made by people who were frustrated with the state of the industry with its “profit at all costs” goals like (anti)repairability. I loved the idea much more than the reality which is why I didn’t mind spending so much on a (nearly) full-spec FW13.

But with how companies typically turn out after IPOs… what guarantee is there that Framework will be able to stick to its ideals? Many companies have resisted IPO’ing for this very reason. What will happen when shareholders want something that is opposing the ideals of a repairable, consumer-friendly laptop?

The only way I can see this work out somewhat fine is if the existing leadership keep the majority of voting shares, but that too is a tenuous path, if at all they are okay with it. I would really like to see the founders commit something with regards to the IPO, because failing that, why shouldn’t I recommend a Thinkpad? What’s left that’s unique to Framework and not hindering its goals/philosophies?

Original Title: I wanted to combine the framework logo and the fist and wrench logo for right to repair in an image. It's not the greatest composite in the world, some of the corners aren't as uniform as I'd like, but I'm pretty happy with the result

Ok, so it seems like some of you didn't get the joke and the posts you made are now making other people think that framework is planning an IPO. So, allow me to fix all that. No, I don't work at Framework but, I do understand sarcasm.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about the TLDR is that in their recent post about their 5 year anniversary, Framework had a bullet that mentioned one of their original goals being to have an IPO in 202X. Which is clearly a joke, because the rest of that bullet is "Take over the world." Obviously very serious indeed.

Go click on the link and actually look at it for yourself.

Now, please stop spreading misinformation, and believing memes on reddit as a source of truth

"We say this every year, but this year is going to be insanely exciting. All of the learnings we’ve captured and investments we’ve made across these five years are bearing out in an incredible set of products that we can’t wait to share with you."

Curious to hear what you guys think is coming. A touchscreen? That aftermarket battery case Framework teased before? Something else?

I’ve had it for like 3 years, I’ve had to replace every piece at least once, the hinges have all been trash been on 3 variants. The mousepads have all been trash on my 3rd. The gloss monitor was horrible outdoors and was finicky, motherboard has had issues twice now. Battery went soft within a year and a half…on and on.

The last straw is a firmware update bricked the mainboard (that I bought last year due to dead usb ports) to where there’s no lights. luckily I still had the one with bad ports to keep it going in the interim I go through support do 17 backflips, pull the laptop apart 6 times and yay they finally agree to “make an exception” and send me a new one.

New one arrives, aaaand it’s a doa. Now they want videos and have me do all the same shit I just did for the first one which I did when it arrived and wouldn’t turn on. I’m not a damn vlogger…I don’t record my entire existence and I’m sure as hell not risking something else breaking from tearing this thing apart 3 more times to satisfy their shitty support. I use this thing all day everyday. Yeah it’s been fairly reliable but I’ve basically bought it twice now with all the parts I’ve had to replace. At this point I’m so over the experience I won’t ever buy another one from them.

Hi everyone,

I don't mind paying higher upfront prices for the framework laptop compared to pre-builts, but I have seen several potential downsides across various threads on the framework 13:

  1. Mediocre battery life on linux due to some potential sleep issues

  2. Mediocre cooling especially with higher temps when in clamshell mode

  3. The amd model coming with a cpu from 2023

Do you all think the repairability is worth it even with these cons?
