Love to hear it, Case! It's fascinating how it took us nearly 50000 years of drawing to develop the understanding to acurately render 3d objects and space in a flat surface. Folks in medieval times made good progress, they really tried to crack it , but alas, It just had to cook for a few centuries more. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I find the architecture in medieval art really charming, though hahaha.

Oh cool! A fellow graphic designer :) of course you could make sense of my explanation! (To add to it, the munsell color system is , sort of, a good way to visualize all that)

Also, I agree with you: yellow is a bitch.

About the language thing, it makes total sense; to which degree it affects perception would be interesting to know! And now that you mention it, english has very good vocabulary to speak with nuance about color. In spanish different concepts commonly tend to get lumped together under the same name. Or the proper terminology is not widely used, or is used wrongly; at least in the art side of things on a begginer level. So I do think that also limits understanding of the properties of color in a way!

Yes it's a tattoo! it was something like this, but with bolder lines. :)

the color I used is very saturated so that's probably why it didn't read super clear as a tattoo. but that's the nature of working with a live model, those finer details can get lost because of time constraints.

Thank you. I've found that it helps to think in terms of "value." Every color has a corresponding value ( value is the lightness-darkness scale, think highlights, mid tones, shadows)

For example: Primary red and blue (and colors derived from them) tend to be "dark", meaning they can still look "chromatic" under medium to low light conditions. In contrast yellow ceases to exist in the shadows, it transforms into an ochre/ brown so it's more of a "light" color.

You can use this knowledge to substitute the natural color with others that express the same value as seen in the scene you are painting.

:P there's a lot more to it, but I hope this info is of some use to you.

Cool! I like your brushwork! Bold color choices as well, turned out really well.

Today I got surprised by a friend I hadn't seen in almost 8 years!! , we sketched together and catched up on life for a while. This is a 35- 40 min portait of her. TBH it ain't my finest work, (but I was distracted by the convo and it has been a really stressful week, so I'll give myself a pass).

Sterilization campaign hapening in a park near me. The wait is loooooong but I had a few pages left in this sketchbook so I took that and ran out the door with a couple of markers and pen I had in hand, it has been bearable at least.

This was done in fineliner, ink, watercolor (the cool metallic ones) and water soluble marker and acrylic marker for the red.

I enjoy drawing vehicles a lot, and older models are the best.

Going through some stuff I found this sketch book from 2023- 2024. I made this sketch while a friend was playing accordion during the 3rd year anniversary of our urban sketching group. I had recently recieved as a gift a very fun set of metallic watercolors so I used those, along with markers, fineliners and ink.

Flipping through this sketchbook I realized I have a couple of pieces I really enjoy but had forgotten about. Maybe I'll start posting old sketches as well.

30 min sketch. Forgot to take a photo on location this time...

Hi, I like reading some detailed write-ups on other peoples posts, so from now on I’ve decided to start doing it myself for some of the original content I post on lemmy, maybe as a form of personal art-diary.

I am currently on a quest to consciously develop a visual style for myself, and practice more digital drawing / painting. I have an issue where a lot of the art I produce does not look like it was made by the same person, (not really that noticeable in drawings I’ve posted here before, but it’s an issue, I swear) And while being versatile can have many advantages, I dislike feeling like sometimes I have no agency over my hand. When doing personal work I default to just doing whatever, and then try to fix stuff to make it work…honestly it’s bad praxis consequence of many years of bad habits, I’m tired of working that way, I need a method.

My goal is to make things that are deliberate, recognizable and cleaner. I see it all the time with other folks here an irl that have a very defined style/aesthetic, like… does anyone else struggle with this? It appears to come natural to most! Damn, we’ll see how this effort turns out.

Onto the subject of todays studies: Last week I watched the “K pop demon hunters” movie, it has some amazing animation work, excellent choreography and some cool songs. the story is generic but the climax of the film is mas-ter-ful… Enough to pique my interest as a non K pop consumer, and I decided to check out the real stuff. Anyway I ended up as per the fans recommendation on the music video for the song “obsession”, which is so over the top in every way hahaha.. Instantly this gentleman caught my eye, the way he moves, so energetic! Holy shit, you can see the other guys doing their best to catch up on the live performances of the song, so I just had to draw him. Still unsure if k pop is for me, though, but I love a good dancer.

When studying gesture in the comfort of my home my preference is to work with video rather than still images, so I can select the best action moments and carefully examine the motion. I did some 2 or 3 min gestures, and then I rendered the pose I liked best. I finished the exercise drawing a pose from imagination, and you can instantly see that the result it’s not as good. working without direct reference makes my drawings stiff, since I haven’t practiced figure drawing form imagination in a loooong while, so there’s another thing I need to work on.

Enough for today, if you managed to get this far into my ramblings.. thank you, I hope it was of some value, and have a nice one, cheers!

(P.S. if you notice any grammar o spelling mistakes please point them out, I’m trying to improve)

I think I blushed irl... Poor undead could'nt get to the end of that dialogue.

I noticed a little trend going on in the community and wanted to contribute. Started traditionally then moved over to photoshop to finish up the skin. Chose a very awkward position to draw, please don't judge my bad posture (⁀ᗢ⁀).
