Best of luck to her.
And how idiotic the frenzy over a photoshopped picture where a sleeve was changed...JFC. Focus on important stuff.
Now can the press leave the woman alone?
Gawd, just saw a Cate timeline on CNN, so I guess the answer 8s no.
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

It broke the rules the image publishers set, was issued a kill notice (pull) and no one knew the extent to which it was edited. The lack of communication after drove speculation.
Regardless, fuck the monarchy, the amount of attention they all get is ridiculous
The fact they still exist is ridiculous
On the other hand, how dumb do you have to be to photoshop a picture and release it like that? That's just asking for the frenzy.
Kate owned up to that. Or did she...
If you want a private life you pull a Harry and Meghan and tell everyone to get lost. But she has chosen her path and her health is a matter of state. So no, she is not entitled to privacy on the matter.
Uhhh didn’t they both do an interview on Oprah?
Sure! That's the great thing about being a private citizen. You can live your life, go on shows, go on private vacations etc. Because it's your life and you can choose how to live it.
If you are taking on a role of state leadership you don't get to do those things.
You have a privileged role with access to roles, and wealth, and information, but the trade off is that your life is not your own. Your health and relationships and connections are a matter of national interest. So you don't get to slip off for a weekend without telling people where you're going. And you don't get to hide medical diagnoses and medical treatment.
It's kind of her job to be in the media. If the press leaves her alone she will be out of a job.
Is there sick leave in her "job"
No she is a member of the Royal family. Only death removes her from that.
I think it's a curse and it's shit. But that's the world we love in.
It is the only way the royal family continues to exist by being in the media.
Such a curse to live an easy life with unimaginable wealth.
Well, that explains that. Do we all get to move on now? :)
No, she must be having a zombie affair with Queen Elizabeth the first. I won't be falling for your reasonable explanations!
Nope. The background looks like a green screen. Hand me the popcorn?
Sincerely, I wish her the best. I know it is common to jump in with hate-the-rich feelings here, but I don't know of anything she has done that makes her deserve cancer. Cancer sucks. The flight is awful, and once it is done you don't get to know if you are actually better for a long time. For the rest of your life you get to carry physical and emotional scars from the fight.
I did this fight. I would wish it away from anyone except the most evil. I hope her treatment and recovery are as smooth as possible.
wish her the best; nobody deserves cancer and hope treatment goes fantastically.
but not looking forward to be lectured by a media that spent a year harassing meghan markle out of the country on how we should be giving her privacy during this time.
my mum has already started "this is somehow meghans fault" spiel
meghan induced too much stress apparently
I guess two car accidents would have been suspicious.
Fuck cancer
I wish her the best. I lost my mom to cancer and watching it consume her was the worst.
I keep forgetting that princesses are real and not just a thing parents call their kids or creepy guys use derogatorily to women at work. It's kinda weird to think about a princess having cancer too, not very fantasy novel. I don't know anything about her but that probably is enough reason to assume she doesn't deserve it. If only we could give it to someone more deserving of such a condition, someone constantly in the news for bad shit, not naming any names...
If I was worried about the health of a millionaire I would be very sad
Out of the loop. Can someone explain this photo editing thing?
She had surgery about 6 months ago and hasn't been seen in public since. Conspiracy theories started spreading about why she hadn't been seen in ages, so a week ago or so they released a very Photoshopped photo of her and her kids that was so bad it had to be retracted and fuelled the conspiracy theory stuff even more.
And now I guess finally they're admitting it's cancer. They could've handled this whole thing a lot better.
It hasn't been 6 months. She was seen on Christmas. Then nothing and sometime in late January they announced she was having a planned abdominal surgery and wouldn't be in public until after Easter.
So was the photoshop thing to cover up that she had cancer or was it more of a touch up removing blemishes kind of thing that went wrong?
I think it was basically a bunch of photos stitched together, probably because they couldn't get all the kids to smile at the same time.
the latter
TL;DR
it’s been a while since she had been seen in a photo.
The palace released a photoshopped pic, AP pulled it since photoshopped items aren’t allowed by their guidelines.
This is the official response from the palace after a few weeks and a lot of conspiracy theories.

Conspiracy theorists online claim she might be dead and the Queen killed her from the grave or some world-is-flat crap
