How long do they support updates for? Google has heen trying to sunset my perfectly fine phone for the last 3 years.

Picked up a fp6 recently and I'm enjoying it so far. There are a few compromises but I'd rather give this company my money than Google/Samsung.

you killed my hopes so damn quickly.

No reason you can't just get one from Murena or Clove! (Sent from the USA via my Murena Fairphone 6 😏)

Mine broke yesterday. The headband base part unfortunately has a weak point and can snap out of nowhere under very minimal force (e.g. taking the headphones off your head, as happened to me). Hopefully it's an issue Fairphone has looked into and fixed, mine were a secondhand pair purchased a year ago so I'm not sure if there have been changes made since (seems maybe not, based on this recent thread). The replacement part appears to be exactly the same, but unfortunately because I'm in Australia it's too much money and effort to get two (it snapped at the same time on both sides) sent out via parcel forwarding (which, to be fair, I knew when I bought them). Hopefully I can 3D print some replacement parts because they are really good headphones otherwise, especially for the price I paid.

Mine broke twice in 3 years, exactly the same part. Not sure if I want to repair them a third time. I love the idea that you can repair everything, but at some point it's just too expensive with the shipping and all.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I have a big head, so every pair of headphones I've used will eventually break there. At least these can be repaired.

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago

It seems to be a fairly common problem on cheaper/mid-range headphones with plastic builds. I had some Shure SRH840s about a decade ago and they broke in a very similar fashion, but it was too difficult and expensive to repair them. Since then, I've only bought headphones that are fully modular and user-repairable. My main pair is the AIAIAI TMA-2 Studio, I've replaced several parts on them over the years (including the headband which lasted a long time but eventually broke last year).

now come to canada

[–] Muffi@programming.dev 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Their phones might be good, but don't buy their earbuds/fairbuds. The bluetooth connection is so bad they are virtually useless (unless you carry your phone in a chest pocket).

[–] olbaidiablo@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

That's where the pinebuds would be a decent substitute.

[–] white_nrdy@programming.dev 1 points 3 days ago

This is good to know. I'm looking at potentially getting new NC ear buds. I have Bose NC 700 over ear headphones, however want earbuds. I was looking at the fair buds, but I wanna be able to walk away from my phone if needed.

What about Canada, we are now a sperated market even if neighbors.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They weren't before? What changed?

[–] ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think they weren't shipping, so people had to find a reseller or something like that

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So all that changed is they ticked a box to include "US" deliveries on their ecommerce platform? I'll never understand why that was so difficult

[–] cole@lemdro.id 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, they might've needed to get FCC approvals and other things to sell in the US

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

That's not how the FCC works. They don't approve things. You follow their standards. If you don't, they fine you. There is no approval process for devices that must comply wit FCC, UKCA, or CE.

[–] cole@lemdro.id 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

that's literally not true. you have to get a license to operate radio devices in the US.

companies must get FCC certification for their devices to legally be sold here

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

To operate. Not to sell.

It literally is true. I make and sell electronics to all three markets. There is no approval process for selling devices.

[–] cole@lemdro.id 1 points 1 hour ago

That seems a little pedantic. They couldn't very well sell a phone here that doesn't operate. Functionally you do need certification

[–] ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

honestly, it's probably more than that. you don't just "tick a box" to send commercial packages to places.. like, did you hear about VAT?

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 3 days ago

Vat is paid by the customer. In international shipping, the shipping company collects it.

Any decent ecommerce platform will automatically add the vat to the order, and it'll be collected by the 3PL provider. It's not really a business decision. Still just a box to tick

[–] mortalic@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Can confirm, typing this on a FP6 I pre-ordered.

[–] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] mortalic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

That's what I'm saying I ordered this one directly from their site. Maybe they are out if stock now? Mine only took a week or so to arrive.

I was just starting to think that I might need a new phone soon, now I know I'll be looking forward to this!
