Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Thought cowbee was at least somewhat rational. Seems he's just like the rest of his comrades

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I genuinely have no clue how you could have come to that conclusion.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

He rarely throws insults and is always ready to cite sources (albeit biased ones). He seems to want to argue in good faith.

The problem is he's wrong about many things, but thinks he's correct all the time and is quite smug about it as well. Now add in this and he's no different from his friends.

[–] stickly@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Cowbee's public facing account has incredible sea-lioning technique. Constantly asking for evidence and backpedaling to his own sources (far beyond merely biased) and picking apart some minor phrasing to avoid facing a solid argument. You can link official CCP/USSR/RT/etc sources refuting his claims and he'll keep trundling along, unperturbed.

If you ever get a tankie to back into "well you just don't understand [dialectics/theory]" you can take that as waving a white flag. There's no such thing as an honest exchange of ideas with any of them.

you should ask them, have the ever lifted russia and china. or tell them to live there if they love it so much.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He throws insults regularly in the matrix channels and on hexbear. He uses his lemmy.ml account as optics

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

I guess that makes sense. It's all a grift

[–] sqgl@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't understand the carpark reference.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago

I believe it's the collection of all the cars they damaged during the massacres.

"Nothing I love more than giving the far-right Israeli government the excuse it desperately wanted to genocide Gaza! Critical support for the PEOPLE'S Zionist-Funded Catspaw of Hamas!"

Putting aside the extremely dubious military value of the raid (which, as has been pointed out, largely resulted in the massacre and kidnapping of civilians rather than the pursuit of serious military objectives, including UN-verified sexual assault that is denied by multiple admins on the Fediverse ), celebrating what can be seen even under the most charitable terms as an overwhelming strategic failure is... strange.

It's like Confederates celebrating Pickett's Charge.

Tankies celebrating Oct 7 civilian massacre... But also claiming Oct 7 was 100% an Israeli false flag... Tankies support Israel imperialism confirmed?

As the Hungarian saying says about the far right:

They deny the Holocaust, because "it did not finish its job".

I can tell you from experience that Cowbee is by far the most abusive person to argue with online I have ever encountered. And I love arguing online so I've met a lot. I blocked them a long time ago and seeing them in a screenshot still makes me shudder. Terrible humans

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 6 days ago

i used to, on reddit, but i realize it only gets you reported and banned down the line, by a vindictive user.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Cowbee is frustrating, but he's easy to counter once you realise his spiel.

Extremeists rely heavily on gish-gallop, bombarding you with nonsense. You need to focus on the weakest claim, point out the bias or flaw in the source, and play for neutrality and impartiality; they'll crumble every single time.

For example, when presented with an obviously biased source like Prolewiki or Redsails, or whatever copy-paste nonsense they have, ask for something more neutral and professional in tone, such as Reuters, AP News, or a neutral article.

[–] rustyfish@piefed.world 14 points 1 week ago (4 children)

You are biased, your source is biased, I am intimidated by BBC, here is a far more reliable source from suckingstrongmansdick.slop that shows the T-14 Armata will solve world hunger.

Or something along those lines. I try from time to time. But am very quick to give up. So I do my part by making fun of them and donate to a good cause, which somehow makes them sooooooo angry. I wonder why.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

One time I was asked to provide a non-Western source on ethnic cleansing in Xianjiang, (because apparently everything I was saying was straight from the US state deparment) I provided an Al-Jazeera article which apparently wasn't good enough because it only referenced a UN report. In this same thread I was linked a video about Chinese democracy that came straight from CCP-controlled media lol

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

tankies and conservatives must be sharing notes, on where they can frame thier argument, and sources. i know they dont like each other, but they post the same way, argue the same way.

They love people dying! :)

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 15 points 1 week ago

If only they did so universally rather than selectively, I could at least have respected their egalitarian misanthropy.

Also love that antisemitism emote they have there.

The red arrow is a reference to Hamas propaganda videos, which in of itself is a reference to the Holocaust

Nice holocaust emote Hexbear, you're really showing them nazis!

The triangle comes from the Palestinian flag, not from the Holocaust. It predates the Holocaust.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_triangle_(Palestinian_symbol)

[–] sqgl@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

The flag has the triangle pointing right, the Nazis and Hamas have it pointing down. What a disingenuous Wikipedia entry.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (33 children)

Did you know Gaza doesn't teach the holocaust? That seems like a big red flag to me, pun intended.

And the president of Palestine also has a doctorate in Holocaust Denialism and has made repeated claims about Nazi Germany not being all that bad? Casting doubt on the six million jews figure.

And their children's media even teaching kids about "wiping out the jews"

Or it's just referring to the flag, sure. If so, why are they pinging Gaza's enemies with Gaza's own ethnic identity (the red triangle meaning arab)? That seems really odd to me.
