There's way too much going on right now for me to really focus on any one country this week. The aftermath of the fall of the Nepal government has, somewhat surprisingly, reverberated around the world, and not only in countries that are enemies to the West as you'd expect; for example, Morocco's government battle fiercely with Egypt's and Jordan's to be first in line to lick the dogshit off the boots of Zionists, and yet Morocco is currently embroiled in a large protest wave based primarily around a youth unemployment crisis (though their population is also remarkably pro-Palestinian, which generates additional friction). We're also seeing similar protests in Madagascar, Peru, and Paraguay, and perhaps more will come. I'm personally fairly doubtful in the potential for meaningful economic results from these protests (the current imperialist system seems too deeply embedded for a movement that isn't explicitly communist and anti-imperialist to alter conditions), but it is quite possible for new political results at least.

Outside of the developing world, it appears that the unpopularity of western leaders, such as in the UK, France, and Italy, is creating new levels of unrest. In Britain, the political system has become so utterly moribund that even the artificial democracy of a two-party system (more-or-less; the Lib Dems do exist I suppose) no longer suffices, with both Conservatives and Labour gradually sinking. The Reform party appears like it may become the new standard-bearer of the capitalists and petit-bourgeois - that is, the historical wellspring of fascism - and the Left Party (whatever name they eventually choose) may or may not rise to meet the occasion. In France, they're on their fifth Prime Minister in two years, after Lecornu lasted about a month, attempting the liberal classic: promising change, and then appointing the exact same people who have ruled for the last few decades. And pro-Palestinian protests and general strikes have erupted in Italy, in defiance of their rightwing government under Meloni.

While there's plenty of other events (e.g. continuing aggression against Venezuela that might soon erupt into a war) it would be remise of me not to mention the very much ongoing events vis-a-vis Palestine and a potential peace deal there, seemingly supported to some degree by Trump. It could be legitimate, and it could be some big act (very likely the latter, IMO). Both Trump and Netanyahu seem to believe that they're very talented political masterminds, producing manoeuvres and feints that would make Machiavelli blush. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I trust the militant organizations inside Palestine to outplay these American failsons. Hamas and similar groups are not nearly as gullible as the Iranian reformist faction - though few people are!

Hamas accuses Israel of ‘manipulating’ list of prisoners to be freed

Hamas senior official Ghazi Hamad tells Al Jazeera that Israel is not playing fair with the list of Palestinian prisoners it agreed to free in exchange for captives held in Gaza.

“The occupation is manipulating the lists of prisoners and even evading the Americans,” Hamad said.

About 250 prisoners serving life sentences are expected to be released on Monday along with 1,500 others detained in Gaza since the war began.

Hamas has demanded the release of prominent Palestinian Marwan Barghouti, but it’s unclear if Israel will free him.

Unconfirmed rumors that Hamas has captured Yasser Abu Shabab. I will post any follow up information I see.

This feels ominous idk

“Fair and immediate retribution against traitors and collaborators in public squares and arenas is a popular will that does not accept compromise or delay.

It is a duty, not just a demand.

The time has come to cleanse the land and eradicate treason forever... O Allah, heal the hearts of the believing people “

https://t.me/amsak2024/6898

“ Execution of the Sentence Against Collaborator Ahmed Tarabin: Eliminating the Head of Recruitment

With utmost firmness and force, the death sentence against senior collaborator Ahmed Zidan Tarabin was carried out in the southern Gaza Strip a short while ago.

Tarabin was one of the most prominent members of the Abu Shabab militia, and his primary mission was to recruit collaborators and instill treason among our people during the war. He was also an active and key member of the so-called Preventive Security Service of the defunct Fatah Authority, which has no place in the Gaza Strip.

This measure is not merely a sentence; it is a decisive and necessary purge to eradicate espionage and recruitment, and to confirm that the fate of every traitor and collaborator is deterrent and immediate punishment.”

“Large quantities of flour and aid were found in the neighborhoods of the Daghmash family, related to the looting of human aid trucks and the large-scale famine that was caused by the Zionist-backed armed groups, in addition to a large quantity of weapons, ammo, and civilian possessions that had probably been looted from houses by force”

Hamas has allegedly released the first batch of 9 prisoners to the Red Cross. Now we wait and see

https://t.me/PalestineResist/82662

This has since been denied by the Red Cross

Hamas political bureau member Mohammed Nazzal to Al-Jazeera:

“We have not yet received the final lists of Palestinian prisoners expected to be released.

The occupation is maneuvering and tampering with the agreement, both in terms of the numbers and names of Palestinian prisoners.

The negotiation battle is still raging, and we will not allow the occupation to evade its responsibilities according to the agreement.

The final formula for the release of the "israeli" captives depends on the fate of the ongoing negotiations.

Netanyahu informed the mediators that he does not want to release a "new Sinwar" from prisons, as part of his evasion of the agreement's terms.

The resistance is ready for any treachery on the part of the occupation.

Handing over the resistance's weapons is linked to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

We will not attend the signing of the agreement tomorrow in Sharm El Sheikh.”

"Israelis" are already talking about a "secret clause" in the ceasefire that would allow them to resume if not all hostages and bodies are returned within 72 hours. The "Israeli" supreme court is refusing to publish the contents of this alleged "clause" due to "security concerns".

You can already see them getting ready to continue at the first opportunity. Disgusting freaks.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 32 points 21 hours ago

I fucking hate that the framing of this latest ceasefire is as if it's permanent, and nothing like the previous ceasefire. There is nothing different about this one at all, beyond one thing:

Israel got all its captives back.

It falls right into the Israeli narrative that Hamas was the blocker to peace, and prepares everyone for the inevitable "Hamas ruined the peace" narrative that'll be tried soon.

Sure, there might be an "international security force" but we also had the GHF? We had intl. mercenaries on the American's payroll? Plus, we have zero clue what that force entails. It certainly wont be a UN mission and may not even include regular forces beyond the American contingent of 200 troops that will be on a direct line to Tel Aviv should fresh cleansing orders come in.

I don't buy it, this is being spun as the "final" peace just because the resistance gave Israel what it wanted, but they did that before with a deal that included eventual release of all captives and the corpses of others. We cannot lose monentum against the entity while it desperately spins a web of lies in preparation for what we know has been planned from the start

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 22 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Don't think it's much of a secret, it's point 4 of the publicly released version of the "Trump deal".

This is just war hawks on the Israeli side desperate for more killing.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 21 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Don't think it's much of a secret, it's point 4 of the publicly released version of the "Trump deal".

Yes, but the Trump deal is not what was signed after negotiations.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 19 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

True, but the narrative has been set by said public release. Even if the signed deal has significant differences, the USA and Israel will point to that.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 19 points 20 hours ago

That's true, but also beside the point. The assertion here is that "Israelis" are lying about or twisting the contents of the signed ceasefire to allow themselves an opening to resume the genocide.

If they point to the original "Trump plan" that was signed, that's more evidence to support this assertion and legally (not that they care) irrelevant.

Sadly - if I'm reading the subtext of your comment correctly - you're almost certainly right that the "Trump plan" would be used to manufacture consent in the west. However, Trump himself has acknowledged since the ceasefire has signed that it will be difficult to recover all of the bodies and that it would likely take longer than 72 hours even with outside help.

“Gazan journalist Saleh Jafarawi was kidnapped and killed with 7 bullets from point-blank by a collaborator militia of the Daghmash family

The son of Hamas leader Basem Naim was also shot in the head, in critical condition

"The last messages of the martyred journalist Saleh Al-Jaafrawi, after the announcement of the ceasefire:

  • "It will take you a million years to break the will of the Palestinian people, and you will not break it."

  • "I am very upset about the situation and the huge scale of destruction, and about the tens of thousands of martyrs and their families, but we are a people who love life and deserve it, and people have started rebuilding even before the official rebuilding of Gaza started."

  • "Thank you to every person, entity, or nation, thank you to everyone who stood with our people, especially during the war."

For over 700 days, Saleh survived a genocide while carrying out his heroic work, only to be martyred at the hands of collaborators“

Sources indicate that a number of detainees are carrying Israeli weapons“

https://t.me/amsak2024/6872

“Security sources to Al Jazeera:

Security forces in Gaza arrest about 60 militia members and transfer them to secure locations to complete investigations with them”

“A little while ago..

After control and cleansing in the Al-Subra neighborhood and eliminating the local militia supported by the occupation..

The security forces have closed the file of one of the agents southwest of Khan Yunis, Bir 19 area, and executed him in the field according to the revolutionary law amid wide public approval.”

This telegram post from a group who have previously targeted collaborators/drug smugglers appears to claim that israel has lost contact with Abu Shabab and he is presumed captured by Hamas. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but they do love their videos so we shall see. One benefit of the immediate bombing being paused is being able to root out these rats.

The PA is keen that tax revenues withheld by the Israeli government are released, since this is preventing salary payments and undermining its liquidity, in violation of the Oslo accords.

israel collects their taxes? Extremely fucked

Israel has also threatened not to renew next month the annual waiver of terrorist financing laws, which allows Israeli banks to process transactions with Palestinian banks.

calling palestinian banks terrorist financiers, extremely fucked

Sharhabeel al-Zaeem, the PA’s justice minister, last week criticised Blair’s involvement, saying: “Is this the independent Palestinian state we are aiming for? All these struggles for all these years in order to have Mr Blair, who failed in London, who failed in Britain, who failed in Iraq, come and – with all due respect at a personal level to Mr Blair – be our guardian as if we were minors?”

at least someone in the PA will say it

Trump has just said: Don’t worry about China, it will all be fine! Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn’t want Depression for his country, and neither do I. The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it!!!

Beijing has declined a call for U.S. Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, to discuss the recent escalation in tariffs between China and the U.S.

[–] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 20 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Hate to do a “I told you so”, but I told you so lol.

The US has no choice but to negotiate. China showed just how difficult it is for Trump to decouple from itself. The is a lesson that Trump will continue to have to learn until he concedes the point.

However, China also cannot keep going with this because it cannot afford to see inflation going up in the US. This is because China has huge local government debt that desperately needs the Fed to lower its interests, way more than what was done last month.

Remember, China controls the industries, the US controls the finance. Unless China gives up its neoliberal policy, the two countries will continue to need one other.

As Premier Li Qiang himself said last month:

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met American executives and academics on Thursday with a metaphor for U.S.-China relations: They are a married couple who bicker but ultimately need each other, said people who heard his speech.

“He said there are disagreements between husbands and wives, but they still stay close,” said Stephen Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, which co-hosted the event with the U.S.-China Business Council. Previous Chinese leaders used the married-couple metaphor to describe the bilateral relations, but it sort of faded as relations have worsened in recent years.

The two may hate each other, but marriage is more than about personal affection. Married couples stay together long after their relationship had faded for political and economic reasons.

The Presidential plane of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro landed today (10/12) in Cuba on an unplanned trip. Meanwhile, tensions remain high, with Venezuela expecting a US attack at any moment. Venezuela is conducting air raid drills with the civilian population in various regions of the country. This simulation is taking place amid escalating tensions, with the Venezuelan government expecting an attack from the United States at any moment.

Not really convinced that it is what people say it is.

That's not the presidental plane, registration and model do not match. Currently it's already on it's way back to Venezuela, looks like a regular commerical flight between Venezuela and Cuba.

Could Maduro have sneaked onboard, without anyone noticing? It's possible of course, anything is.

https://x.com/EventsUkraine/status/1977363528995438624

Interesting assertion of what the front lines look like on the Ukraine front.

__

1/ Infantry and armor is under greater pressure than ever

The Ukrainian army has had to move logistics (fuel etc) 40-50km away from the line of contact

2/ Defensive lines don't exist anymore

Because of Ukrainian infantry deficiencies, there are simply burrows occupied by tiny groups of troops

With a distance of 300m to a kilometer between defensive positions

3/ As a result, Russian troops can often simply bypass Ukrainian troops to enter cities

Sometimes, Russian troops can even get so far as to attack Ukrainian artillery crews

4/ Sometimes, Russians set up their positions at one end of a captured chain of trenches, while Ukrainians hold positions at the other end.

'Single burrows are hastily dug depressions in the ground', as Ukrainian media reports

5/ The Ukrainian strategy is for drone dominance of the air to form 'kill zones' that Russia can't advance through

But as Ukrainian commander Stanislav Buniatov of the Aidar batallion writes, these kill zones are rarely achieved - Russia advances

6/ https://eventsinukraine.substack.com/p/frontline-chaos

__

So what this is reading according to this account's take is that Ukraine had been bled white through slow attrition, attempts to plaster over holes in defenses caused by shortages of manpower through drone defenses fall short due to both manpower and equipment shortages. The author asserts the only way to reinforce the areas Russian forces are pressing into is only by the reallocation of human resources from other defensive fronts which in turn further weakens them as well.

Should this be true, the only alternative at this point for Ukraine is to either further sacrifice their future by lowering the age of conscription from where it currently sits at 25 years old or to sue for peace and try to salvage what it can from recognizing russia's claims over its lost territories.

Ukraine may be hoping that with the ceasefire deal in the Levant may free up more resources to be allocated its direction, but they really should be fully prepared to snuff those hopes out in addition to the possibility of being cut completely loose by the west should the United States pursue the unthinkable yet again and attempt to invade Venezuela.

[–] companero@hexbear.net 29 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

I don't think Ukraine is actually sending that many of their unwilling conscripts into battle. Their supposed problem with raw manpower is overblown, in my opinion, which is why they haven't lowered the draft age lately (and aren't going to). The whole song and dance about Biden pushing to lower the age and Zelensky refusing was a psyop to make him look good.

In any case, I believe Russia is creating the conditions for a major offensive. If that happens, NATO/Ukraine may decide to send the Volkssturm into the meat grinder, or try to "flip the table" somehow.

Until 2022 China imported 95% of its helium and most of it was controlled by the US. Of the world's ten largest helium producers, four were American companies, and the remaining six all used American technology.

spoiler

In a nutshell what he's explaining is that with helium the US had an even stronger card to play if China ever used the rare earths card.

This raised huge alarm bells inside China. In an article published in late 2022 in the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science (https://frontiersin.org/journals/environmental-science/articles/10.3389/fenvs.2022.1028471/full), several researchers from PetroChina’s Beijing-based Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development stressed that China would be greatly affected if the US imposed a “stranglehold” blockade on helium exports.

China's research ecosystem also went into overdrive to find solutions to the helium dependency issues, with China's Academy of Sciences awarding its annual 2024 "Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize" to a new helium extraction technology project (https://english.casad.cas.cn/newsroom/nc/202502/t20250228_902739.html) because "these scientific and engineering achievements broke the long-standing monopoly of the US and ensured the security of China's helium resources" (https://guancha.cn/internation/2024_10_15_751771.shtml)

The result: by the end of 2024 China had cut its helium dependence on the US to less than 5% (https://scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3282295/china-quietly-extracting-itself-us-helium-stranglehold-experts-say).

"Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize"

Reading about effective governance is like reading fantasy.

It reads like a historical writing of someone playing a 4x game and just researching whatever technology they need at the moment.

late 2022

end of 2024

accomplished in less than two years

some-controversy

EDIT: hold up [from last link]

Today the US accounts for less than 5 per cent of China’s helium imports, while Qatar accounts for almost 90 per cent, with an increasing amount of helium also coming from Russia, which is expanding its capacity, he said.

now they're dependent on Qatar... who is not looking very independent from the US lately

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 8 points 15 hours ago

Damn. Thing is the relaiance on Helium itself is basically a death sentence.

📉 It's almost impossible to synthesize in quantities large enough to fill a few balloons over a year.

📉 It currently resides exclusively in natural gas wells, so extraction requires a bunch of greenhouse has emissions, whether you burn the unused gasses off or let them into the atmosphere.

If we've got less time than ever to replace Helium, we better start sooner than later. Or our hard drives and MRI scanners will be stuffed with Hydrogen like millions of miniature Hindenburgs.
