So where are the bus loads of lawyers? Even with today’s authoritarian reality, that should be an open-shut case. Even if ICE claims they can write their own warrants, there’s no way they’re motivated enough to write one for every unit in a large building. Their laziness trumps their malice

How exactly do ICE punks get their authority?

They're not cops, so how can they detain people?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 10 points 1 hour ago

mostly from not being shot on sight

[–] frustrated@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

They arent cops but they do derive their authority the same way cops do: the govt imbues them with that authority.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Noemish mischief

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

ICE agents are unfortunately cops.

Where are all those GUNS at America????

If someone entered the sanctity of my home without first presenting an Article III warrant, they'd get a bullet in their skull

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

I agree with you, but...while you say that, but when there's 10 brown shirts outside, ready to return fire, I don't know how practical that ends up being...

[–] Res_ipsa_loquitur@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

It's more practical with a super safety 😄

A lot of people like to puff out their chest and say that. I still haven't seen something like that happen in the news for all the times ICE has raided people's homes throughout the country. It could be a matter of time but it'll be exceedingly rare.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 3 points 28 minutes ago

It is a situation where after the pin drops, everything explodes. Exceedingly rare will become common, simply because law and norms no longer has enough belief to sustain the status quo.

The America we knew is running on inertia alone. That ride is coming to an end.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 3 points 47 minutes ago (1 children)

when it happens, it's not making the news...

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 minutes ago

Or it'll be portrayed as sanitized as possible under the guise of mental illness

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 4 hours ago

The 2nd Amendment exists for when all the other Amendments fail.

If you don't respect the 4th Amendment, maybe you'll respect the 2nd Amendment.

They mounted a tripod gun on the roof of the broadview facility. I challenge anyone to think about "shithole" areas of the world and not envision unmarked paramilitary wearing masks, body armor, and carrying something like an ar15.

I hate the fact that the international community is just sitting by because it's an internal affair and only speaking up about trade issues, etc... That's what gave Nazi Germany carte blanche to do it's thing leading up to 39.

Every sane country on earth needs to be embargoing the fuck out of the U.S., not just for their own sake, but for the sake of forcing the American political establishment to deal with their own fascist problem or become a paraiah on the world stage.

[–] Ultraviolet@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

1800 people have already been "lost track of" (read: murdered until proven otherwise) in the Everglades concentration camp.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 4 points 4 hours ago

That's because they're not willing to piss off Trump. He's unstable, belligerent, and hostile - all while commanding the world's largest military and that stupid tariff hammer. It's easier for them to look the other way the same as with the Gaza genocide. They might retroactively call it out when it no longer threatens backlash for them to do it.

[–] didnt1able@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

If only the days of invading a fully militarized country were still on the table. You can't look at this like it's 1939. With nukes now being a thing no one wants to get involved because it will end in total destruction. America is over, a failed experiment in self governance. In all honesty USA should be broken up into 50 SEPERATE countries. There needs to be a plan in place for this to come to fruition, or its over for you guys. All of you seem to actively hate everyone else in your country.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

More like 7-10 countries based on a combination of bioregions, cultural zones, and remaining indigenous communities. Many (most?) US states aren't developed or densely populated enough to function as independent nations as they currently exist.

I'd start with: Cascadia, California-Nevada, the Southwest (UT/CO/AZ/NM), the Midwest, Texas-Oklahoma, the Confederate States (minus Texas), Yankee (NY, NJ, PA), and New England.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

We (New England) will take the damn Yankees, so we’ll have our own southern yokels to look down on. Besides, the only important games in baseball are Red Sox vs Yankees: we’d have the entire major league (that anyone cares about). /s

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

50 countries is wild lmao

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 20 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

Yeah but the problem is he didn't achieve power by some manipulation of the vote at least not primarily he achieved it by getting a bunch of Americans to vote for him. A bunch of stupid ignorant Americans wearing silly hats voted for him.

Shy of any evidence to say otherwise he is the democratically elected leader of the United States. All the countries can't be setting the precedent that if they don't like a particular leader they will assist in their downfall.

Besides if Europe playes it's cards right it's about to become the economic superpower of the world. The current economic superpower appears to be continuously blowing their own feet off and giggling.
