I've not been here this long, but coming here from reddit was like moving from a stadium full of screaming maniacs attacking each other to a nice warm pub with like 5 to 13 quiet maniacs having a nice drink.

Telling people about Lemmy (in my experience IRL) be like:

Me: "It's like Reddit, but cooler."

Them: "What's Reddit?"

[–] Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

That’s probably healthier anyway.

[–] Konstant@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That means they use instagram, tik tok and/or facebook

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Mostly just 9gag...

Does it still exist?😅

Okay now that I got my ticket into the club, I get to be racist and ignorant.

Through this I experience existential validation.

People here is as shitty as on Reddit. I don't know why you think they're any better.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah, but you can post truly based opinions on Lemmy without being banned. Such as:

Charlie Kirk deserved it.

That'd get you banned on Reddit.

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Not snide, reflective question: What makes you think you can't get banned here?

I've been banned from various areas. I told an instance owner off because he truly deserved it. Banned. I wasn't surprised. I was insta-banned from the Squared Circle community for pointing out the facts supported by data that the AEW program is suffering a documented ratings decline.

Not that you can't get banned, but that you won't. Reddit will ban you because they're conservative-owned and operated, and love censoring any form of dissent. Most Lemmy mods don't give a fuck about your opinions as long as you're not directly calling for violence.

[–] CybranM@feddit.nu 3 points 1 week ago

That's not the Reddit I've experienced, I've seen lots of anti-israel posts and comments with lots of upvotes.

Here on Lemmy though I got banned because I disagreed with someone calling North Korea democratic. It was .ml tho and their echo chamber couldn't handle the difference of opinion.

[–] XM34@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, that's also bullshit. Anything even remotely in favour of Israel will get you banned on a lot of communities. It's just a different flavour of ban reasons.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I'm banned on a load of comms. No idea why and too lazy to look it up. Think I caught some more bans for "fuck Kirk" comments.

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Interesting. My political side is far from that of Charlie Kirk and still think that nobody deserves to be punished without a trial, let alone be murdered. Otherwise I fail to spot the difference between two different sides of hate.

Besides, man, that's not a "based opinion". That's plainly bullshit. As I said elsewhere, if you really think the man deserved it, why didn't do it yourself? Cowardice? Lazyness? Or maybe the truth is that you are just pretending to care about some cause?

At least, block is functional here. But I'll happily report your comment first.

[–] Cyclist@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't deserve it, but he was certainly fine with it.

[–] Engywuck@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

This is reasonable.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 7 points 1 week ago

We tried giving the Nazis trials before. It didn't work, they're still here.

Charlie Kirk was a christofascist Nazi, and it's just a shame that it was over quickly, because he deserved to feel it.

[–] SugarCatDestroyer@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

You need to appreciate what you have, ideal people do not exist, and if they do, you need to look for them carefully, because they do not show themselves.

[–] XM34@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Exactly, lol. Lemmy is just as bad as Reddit. Just with less bots, less people in general, but way more tankies!

[–] Eshrekshion@piefed.social 12 points 1 week ago

Fewer bots is a big one. Greater likelihood of real interaction happening. And then arguing with a 12 year old online most likely.

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

So many tankies. And Nazis. One or the other!

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

but way more tankies

Came here to say this

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The only thing that has enabled me to remain sane on this platform is the block functionality.

I have a policy, and I'm not being exaggeratory, that I block at least one person and one community per day.

This place is just like any other, a slice of humanity piled in a heap.

[–] Brekky@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Love exaggeratory!

[–] SugarCatDestroyer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Perfect lol.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We're all scum, regardless of whether we're on Reddit or Lemmy, but that's just my take on things.

[–] SugarCatDestroyer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Your view is extremely realistic.

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I also like that there's a little less stuff on here, it's easy to spend less time on my phone. No need for endless shit. Occasional crap is enough.
