Building implosion
In the controlled demolition industry, building implosion is the strategic placing of explosive material and timing of its detonation so that a structure collapses on itself in a matter of seconds, minimizing the physical damage to its immediate surroundings. Despite its terminology, building implosion also includes the controlled demolition of other structures, like bridges, smokestacks, towers, and tunnels. This is typically done to save time and money of what would otherwise be an extensive demolition process with construction equipment, as well as to reduce construction workers exposure to infrastructure that is in severe disrepair.
Building implosion, which reduces to seconds a process which could take months or years to achieve by other methods, typically occurs in urban areas[citation needed] and often involves large landmark structures.
The actual use of the term "implosion" to refer to the destruction of a building is a misnomer. This had been stated of the destruction of 1515 Tower in West Palm Beach, Florida. "What happens is, you use explosive materials in critical structural connections to allow gravity to bring it down.
The term "implosion" was coined by my grandmother back in, I guess, the '60s. It's a more descriptive way to explain what we do than "explosion". There are a series of small explosions, but the building itself isn't erupting outward. It's actually being pulled in on top of itself. What we're really doing is removing specific support columns within the structure and then cajoling the building in one direction or another, or straight down.

Building implosion techniques do not rely on the difference between internal and external pressure to collapse a structure. Instead, the goal is to induce a progressive collapse by weakening or removing critical supports; therefore, the building can no longer withstand gravity loads and will fail under its own weight
Numerous small explosives, strategically placed within the structure, are used to catalyze the collapse. Nitroglycerin, dynamite, or other explosives are used to shatter reinforced concrete supports. Linear shaped charges are used to sever steel supports. These explosives are progressively detonated on supports throughout the structure. Then, explosives on the lower floors initiate the controlled collapse.
A simple structure like a chimney can be prepared for demolition in less than a day. Larger or more complex structures can take up to six months of preparation to remove internal walls and wrap columns with fabric and fencing before firing the explosives.

Other commenter responds “I’ve been seeing this quote everywhere, what’s your point?” OP responds with the (very obvious) point that it’s Charlie Kirk pretty much saying we have to accept his death. Other commenter responds, “ok, thanks. I think I’ll wait to hear his take before I respond to you.”

Even if you want it to be a part of your workflow, it’s crazy that it’s encouraged at the school and junior levels. You should learn to read, write, and debug code! Figuring out how to say pretty please write my code to a chatbot isn’t difficult enough to merit dedicating time early in your career to learn it, and if you don’t have the skills to reason through the output it’s less the useless.
Its not encouraged at my university but students use it to cheat anyway.
I guess making every computer product an unknowable box of ads and spyware while the entire economy is being propped up by grifters doesnt make for the best students.

I was browsing the wider reactions to the funny thing yesterday on the fediverse with my lemmy.ml account, and I have to say that I'm positively surprised. I expected much more stormfront-esque pearl-clutching about the dead fascist. But no, most things I found could have come from here, lots of celebration and memes. Even accounts from lib.world, libfed.social and fa.sh.works were mostly ok.
Just wanted to make the observation, not recommending to refederate or anything. Just expected much more lib reactions to it.

The cool thing about the AI era is they’re not only trying to replace call center support, but even the automated systems that had already existed are much worse than before. I just tried to get a package held for me with UPS and instead of having me punch in the tracking code with my phone pad it wants me to say it out loud, and it is terrible at figuring out the tracking code. Lots of number letter confusion that should be caught by validating if it’s the expected character type for the position. Stop hiring “cracked” ML engineers who just graduated, this shit was functioning perfectly fine a decade ago. Please rehire your software engineers that actually knew how to do their jobs.
The chatbots also put up more resistance before forwarding you to staff now. And as I’ve said, these things are just notably worse than pre-llm, which is fucking wild. I don’t even necessarily think it’s a weakness of the language model, it’s because corporate is so bad at separating out grifters from actual engineers and these systems are built by the dumbest MBAs who took a single random “AI” “certification”.
Seriously contemplating moving to a cabin in the woods before this cycle catches up to us enough that planes, trains, and automobiles start exploding on the regular.

I went for a bike ride last night and felt the hopeful air I haven't felt since childhood. I realized then that it wasn't the innocence of youth I was missing, but the feeling of hope for the future, and that those feelings are absolutely not locked forever in the past. It was a feeling of immense relief, like a claw around my throat loosening just enough for a tiny breath of air. This life can be more than just waiting to die.
