"we raised the cost of our hasbrown from 50 cents to 3 dollars and now no one's buying them!"

i hate these pieces of shit so much. all this economic turmoil is literally an illusion. rich pigs got too greedy, raised everything too much to the point that no one can afford it, and now they can't admit that so they have to act like "the economy" is some vengeful god lashing out rather than a completely fake and predictable product of their own making

this bourgeois pig needs a bullet for breakfast. fuck these scum. i'm heated just reading the headline of this dumb ass article

[–] psivchaz@reddthat.com 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hey now, it's not all greedy corporations increasing prices to make more money. It's also greedy corporations suppressing wages to make more money.

[–] ephemeral@hexbear.net 47 points 1 week ago (3 children)

let's see a chart of the prices of various mcdonalds items over the past 5-10 years. fast food inflation has gotten totally out of control. not that anyone should be eating that slop anyways

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Someone at work offered me the hashbrown from their combo breakfast the other day, I ate it because I couldn’t stand seeing 4 dollars worth of fried taters thrown out. Have they always been so oily? shrug-outta-hecks

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They have always been that oily but they definitely haven't always been four dollars

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

In my local area it’s 4 dollars for a lone hashbrown, I think where my folks live it’s closer to 2 something

[–] ephemeral@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I just bought a pack of frozen hash browns from the grocery store and it was $4 for 10 of them. much better than mcdonalds ones and not greasy

granted I had to endure the laborious task of heating them up for 15 whole minutes in the air fryer

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

the frozen hashbrowns you get at kroger and walmart are, as far as i've heard, exactly the same supplier mcdonald's uses. so yeah. i buy those myself and put them in the air fryer. i would say it's on par with the mcdonald's hashbrowns (and better due to less oil like you said) tho i do consider mcd's hashbrowns to be nummy but not worth what they're asking.

[–] GuanoLoco@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yes. They are deep fried in oil.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

It's absurdly expensive for how shit it is. You can pay marginally more to get food that is way, way better.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

Make sure to include wages at McDonald's and see how little those have grown over time

Lmao remember how they called it The Great Recession despite it actually being a economic depression not a recession but because we have a rational economic system if they called it a depression the economy would probably panic and collapse. Very rational. Adults at the helm etc etc. Very cool to have a system where you can’t talk about the problems.

They are so afraid of some cascading failure stemming from them saying aloud deeply magical words that they cannot speak them. The hallowed list of such terms now includes the fucking Burger Index. They have to obfuscate the motherfucking Burger Index with this breakfast bullshit. I’m actually starting to lose it here.

[–] LangleyDominos@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

That damn economy. Making me price people out of breakfast. I hate it, but what can you do?

Feb. 14, 2023 at 3:10 PM "To Save Money, Maybe You Should Skip Breakfast" By Gabriel T. Rubin

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

only-throw no breakfast only spend

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i admit that i used to hit the mcdonalds for breakfast when i was hungover as fuck on weekends. this was back before prices went haywire and i could give them $7 for like a bag full of pancakes, eggs, meat, biscuits, and a giant ass caffeinated drink. i would come home and add some of my own, more quality ingredients, like cheese, maple syrup, butter, and some condiments i like to jazz it up.

there was one like 30 seconds from my house, so it was a sweatpants, hoodie, shades ordeal, get home and then set up my little feast and watch some garbage while i eat some garbage on the couch. it would sit in my stomach like a bag of greasy concrete, warming as it hardens, and i would nap the day away.

when they took away the cheap way to compile that sort of order and doubled the price unless i wanted a McD's brand low-jack installed on my phone where i had to gamify figuring out a cheap food order with the 10% of executive function i operate in hangover status, i just figured out how to do some shit at home with some preparation. like oven tots and other frozen shit, because who cares. i also kind of quit drinking then, which cascaded into me making better food decisions, generally.

mcdonalds and the others that hiked prices on fast food literally did it to themselves. they had an easy mode fucking cash cow and they slayed it. #DemandDestruction

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you can, get a drawer style air fryer. You basically will always have better fried potatoes of any kind at home. One batch of frozen fries or tots for two people takes about 10 minutes to cook so you can multitask a little while those are going

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

I gotta say I was skeptical about air fryers (“it’s just a normal oven but big, what’s the point?”) but god having one is amazing for some things, cooking frozen potato products is one of them lol

[–] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 1 week ago

those poor bastard consumers that only consume everything can't even do that properly!

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I skip their breakfast because BDS. I fucking love their muffins so this is hard for me.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ikea blueberry muffins are better.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's a dessert treat though! Not a breakfast! shoulder-grab

[–] GuanoLoco@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Pre-breakfast palate cleanser.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

No biggie.

Trump will issue a fast food ~~execute~~ executive order saying "Citizens in public must eat breakfast at fast food restaurants or face punishment. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

---

Edit

Interesting typo. Part of it is that my insomnia returned with a vengeance. But also - I can't stop thinking that soon Trump's goons will murder people in the street in broad daylight.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the "SUPPORT AMERICAN BUSINESSES" act. mandatory mcdonalds every morning. if you don't eat you still have to wait in line and give them money

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

if you don't eat you still have to wait in line and give them money

Ah. I should have put words like that into Trump's mouth. Well, I can now. The press conference...

"So - you gotta get there early. Really, really early. 'Cause of you don't - you still gotta pay. First come - first served. Right? Right. It's capitalism. If you don't eat you still have to wait in line and give them money. It's the law. "

"President Trump - an executive order is not the law."

"Before now - maybe true. But now I am the law." He signals at his goons. "Throw that guy out. Way out. Bad reporter. Very, very bad. " The goons rush over and roughly manhandle the reporter like bouncers at a club pouncing on a violent drunk. The reporter yells has he's removed from the room surprisingly quickly. In the meanwhile the press core is busy pretending to not really understand what's happening. Nobody else yells out in protest or does anything - of course.

"Now. Anybody got a good question. Remember - good question. Not a bad question. Barron told me 'Or they get the hose again.' I don't know what that means. But I like it. I like it a lot."

"I have a question about tariffs. May I ask it."

"See? Respect. You behave - no hose. Misbehave and big bad hose."

[–] GuanoLoco@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Interesting, indeed. The typo that started the Luigi code speak of using your executive function. ie: Lend them some of your executive function, some lasting advice.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

I wish I could stop thinking about Trump's goons murdering people. But I'm convinced it's going to happen. It's just a matter time. Maybe as soon as this year. Plus and of course - the dem pols will soon if not instantly chaste not the murderous goons but the protestors and maybe even the victims too.

Another "of course" is that the dem's method of protesting the massacre and "fighting" fascism will be something like: We know you risk facing violence or getting shot or even getting killed when you go to the polls. But if you vote then means more of us can get into congress and continue to not do anything. Sounds great - right?!

Ninja edit. Maybe I'm being entirely to pessimistic but I think federal forces invading Chicago could get ugly.

getting breakfast at mcdonalds isn't a something people made up to mock americans? it's something they do, in such great quantities that its an economic indicator?

I wonder if it's because you can get better food cheaper literally anywhere else.

Pretty crazy non of the business geniuses at the largest restaurant chain in the world couldn't figure that out.

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

McD brekky is just incredibly mid, at least in Poland

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I feel like people only say "mcdonalds breakfast is good" because the regular mcdonalds food is so bad it's kind of a shock that the breakfast food (which is okay at best) look good in comparison

[–] ephemeral@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I feel like people who say any fast food breakfast is good have never cooked a meal in their lives. you can easily make way better versions of all that shit for a fraction of the cost at home

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

half of what makes fast food breakfast palatable is not having to fucking deal with cooking when you're barely awake because bastard morning people run society

[–] ephemeral@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

admittedly I don't cook breakfast on workdays either, because I'm so not-a-morning-person that I have very little appetite. but personally there's nothing I want to deal with less than a fast food drive thru line, and I'm not trying to start my work day feeling sick to my stomach. I just eat a banana and maybe like a granola bar

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

can you make it in 2 minutes enroute to work though

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Not me looking at all the disgusting protein shaker bottles in my car rn

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

imo this is a valid point about lunch/dinner but not breakfast. the lunch/dinner options at fast food places are made with fake garbage and taste debatably like shit depending on who you ask, but the breakfast options are really just egg, cheese, bread, and a type of protein if you eat meat. they're not using fake eggs/fake english muffins, at least no more than the shit you would buy at the store. so i would say a mcdonald's breakfast could easily be as good or better as a home made breakfast, as someone who made their own egg and cheese english muffin every single day for breakfast for the last probably 10 years. with that being said, i would never pay what mcdonald's is asking for their shit when i can make it at home in 15 mins. i wouldn't assume it's bad food or worse than anything else tho, like i would about their burgers or fries

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Mc is mid in general here in my country, my family went to Burger King, since it was cheaper and emptier after a scandal. Employees were spitting in the food, that was it.

[–] Hohsia@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago
