i'm wondering if there was a federated or activitypub based linktree alternative? i current use linktree obviously but i'm growing tired of his bloatedness and would love to support an open alternative.. mostly just since i have a collection of threadiverse accounts for different things and would love to have one place for them all :)

I don't see what ActivityPub would add to a Linktree alternative, it's a static page of links that doesn't need to talk to anything.

There's LinkStack, which is like a FOSS Linktree and has various instances you can sign up for.

i didn't know if activitypub had like a "contact card" activity but it would be interesting so that it could essentially make a public directory of people (if they make themselves public, ofc)

I suppose Mastodon-likes (we really need a name for these) have their bio-links which are kinda similar, but fairly limited at 4 links.

Wafrn lets you put in an unlimited amount of them.

It seems quite a few platforms increase this (matsodon-glitch and Sharkey at least), but unlimited seems ripe for abuse. I'd cap it at like 20 myself.

Linktree is just a static site with a list of links. You could do the exact same thing using Hugo as a site builder and GitHub Pages for free hosting. All it would cost you is a custom domain name if you wanted one. Not sure activitypub brings anything useful to the table here.

github pages is free but it is owned by microsoft, how is this better than linktree?

[–] StrawberryPigtails@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You have more control, beyond that… It’s not. Better to fully self host it, but not everyone has the capability or interest in developing the capability to do that.

well, I haven't tried it, but there's codeberg pages.

First I've heard of that one. Nice. Looks like the same setup that Github Pages uses too, so should be easy to transfer the site if needed.

What about an AI-enabled ActivityPub linktree running on blockchain technology in the cloud?

I also do it this way via ghost for the website builder and a2hosting for the domain, and then I have multiple pages for linktree type uses, one is personal and one is public links basically, both pages not accessible via buttons on the website so they are only accessible to anyone with the links to the pages or a way to see the whole site tree.

There is too much obsessions about making everything fediverse compatible even when it doesn't make any sense

Federated onlyfans

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

At most, make it have a machine-readable json-ld representation.

I just made a free static site on neocities for my links. omg.lol looks like a cool option as well (open source but not free tho)

Neither of these are fedi/activity pub but they're not so bloated/none of the tracking and privacy issues that linktr.ee has

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This need could probably be filled pretty well with something like neocities :)

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

hmm, interesting. i love this site already :^

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

As in you love neocities? Or you love Lemmy because someone recommended neocities? Or you love where you are on the fediverse already and don't want something like neocities, because it's not 'this site'?

Asking to clarify cause I'm overthinky lol

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

oh i just meant i never heard of neocities but i love it now cause it looks cute :3

but i also do love piefed/lemmy! :P

[–] Cris_Color@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Gotcha, I'm glad I could share! 😊

Hope you have a lovely day!

How could this be fediverse compatible??? If you do not like linktree, just use a static html page

[–] deadsuperhero@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Honestly, it would be kind of cool if you just had a simple app to log in with your Fediverse identity, and it rendered your existing profile on the page and allowed you to put additional links.

I don't think it necessarily needs to federate.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

This is something that ATproto would do better than AP, imo.

Would the extra fields in your piefed bio work?

[–] Merlin@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

Not fediverse exactly but nostr has nostree

[–] 3dcadmin@lemmy.relayeasy.com 1 points 1 week ago

I run a linkstack instance but it's not federated as such - and as said I cannot see the real advantage of doing so as they are just a page(s) of links. However linkstack can be pretty, is easy to maintain a list and runs as a docker container...
