I'm calling it now. Trump can't seem to get people mad enough to violently resist him, so some MAGA zealots will take some pot shots at guardsman in a false flag operation so hat Trump can invoke the Insurrection Act and become dictator for life.

Edit: Wait...

The deployments will take place across the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming, per Fox.

I confess that I assumed these deployments would be to blue states to create strife. These are pretty much all red states. Is he just trying to find all those violent undocumented immigrants he thinks are in the country?

[–] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 49 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Red states, but they are going to be showing up in the blue cities in those states

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

That's a really good point.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

The Battles of Atlanta, New Orleans, and Austin are gonna be chaotic nightmares

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 24 points 2 weeks ago

they'll start with red states and go after blue counties/cities within them. the conservatives will be fed propaganda about how the liberals are protecting criminals in their own state and blah blah, this will further entrench MAGA and conservatives in general, and resistance will be used to justify spreading the deployment to more states, namely blue ones.

[–] thejoker954@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Its a power consolidation move.

One - as other commenter said he'll go after blue havens in the red states

Two - it normalizes troops in the street for "his people" leading to greater complacency.

Three: when the red states don't balk at the deployments, he can use that as ammo when he sends them to a blue state and they resist.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

They will hunt immigrants in red states. If blue states start protesting they will be deployed there to fight it. Once it's normalized they will be deployed anywhere it benefits the government.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Secure the areas he’s strong in to prepare for Balkanization?

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

I assume it’s because he’ll receive the least resistance, or even affirmative assistance, there. Once that’s been normalized he’ll move to do it in blue States and point to his “successes” so far to sell it.

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Here's my understanding, though I could have missed something while trying to navigate the law. In order for Trump to be able to pull this with the national guard, he needs the consent and authorization of the Governor. He would never get this from blue states, so I imagine the goal is to have red states hand him free power, then target the blue areas within that state. Once we've normalized it a bit, it's easier to force it on the remaining states.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's tough to navigate if, like me, you're not a lawyer. I've been doing a bit of reading on this today and I don't think he'll need the governor's permission. If he can cause enough chaos and violence to justify invoking the insurrection act. That act says, in part:

§333. Interference with State and Federal law

The President, by using the militia or the armed forces, or both, or by any other means, shall take such measures as he considers necessary to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy, if it—

(1) so hinders the execution of the laws of that State, and of the United States within the State, that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law, and the constituted authorities of that State are unable, fail, or refuse to protect that right, privilege, or immunity, or to give that protection; or

(2) opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.

This is really terrifying. First, because the law does not clearly define what conditions must exist for the law to be invokes. "Insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy" - Could this be more vague? And second because of the phrase, "or by any other means." He can use literally any other means he chooses. Remember when he told the proud boys to stand back and stand by? Well by invoking this act he could directly arm them and order them to go into a state or city to quell whatever he has decided is an insurrection.

And if your wondering whether or not he would invoke this act? Remember that back in January of this year he issued an Executive Order that included this tidbit.

Within 90 days of the date of this proclamation, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall submit a joint report to the President about the conditions at the southern border of the United States and any recommendations regarding additional actions that may be necessary to obtain complete operational control of the southern border, including whether to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807. [Emphasis mine]

So he's already tried to find an excuse to invoke it. Now he's trying to manufacture an excuse.

Yep, you've landed right where I did by trying to learn the legal loopholes. We're in for a wild ride no matter what.

In DC? That is where the most crime is. 1700 people with oaths sworn to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic should start in the White House, then move onto The House of Representatives and then the Senate and Supreme Court.

Edit. Once that is done, then you can sweep the red states.

Workin the mean streets of Salt Lake City, De Moines, Boise, and Cheyenne

I’m getting extremely angry at these fash headlines.

Chairman Trump is going to trample 19 sovereignties in order to make his tyrannical dreams come true.

Like fuck, it’s not hard.

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

This is purely for show. I've said it before and I'll say it again. His bullshit is unscaleable.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No shit..

IT IS 90 per state.. what the fuck will it do.

There are 30,000 police officers in Illinois and about 2500 Police Departments in Texas…

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

The Trump administration reportedly plans to mobilize up to 1,700 National Guard troops across 19 states

You're right. I deleted a comment I wrote earlier because I thought I read that wrong but yep, that is across states, not per states. Yeah, the numbers are just half-ass bullshit. Ineffective by design. It's how he approached building the wall. What they did was a con job, poorly implemented, failing by definition, the work of charlatans.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What limit in particular is going to stop him? I haven't seen any do so effectively.

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The cost of things. He will bankrupt his own craven ambitions, just like everything else he ever touches. There are already issues along these lines such as he's spreading National Guard budgets thin, etc. He just doesn't have the resources he thinks he has. There isn't a bottomless fund. He overplays his hand on this in every venture.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

We just gave ICE a hundred billion dollars. I don't think funding is going to be a problem

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It is irresponsible, and arguably downright evil to uncritically regurgitate what the dictator says in your headlines, The Dependent. Fuck you, you’re part of the problem.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Most of the Independent is owned by Evgeny Lebedev and by Sultan Muhammad Abuljadayel. To the extent that it has an editorial point of view at all, it aims not to offend oligarchs and Saudi royals.

[–] ninjabard@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Wow, that's exactly what's in the Epstein files.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

"Crime crackdown" my ass.

Theatre of cruelty for his racist pig folowers.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Where are the trump/Epstein documents and why aren't journalists asking him about these every single day?

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Thank god... Nebraska can use all the help it can get. It's a fucking hellscape over there.
