I've been an Xbox guy for literally my entire life. I had an original Xbox, a 360, almost all editions of the Xbox One, and both a Series S and Series X.
However, I got increasingly annoyed and frustrated with Microsoft's UI, paying for Xbox Live, and how poorly some games run on console.
Then, a buddy of mine was in town and showed me his OLED Deck running Black Ops 3 Zombies. I was amazed, to say the least. I didn't even know the Steam Deck existed, because I barely had anything on Steam. He's been telling me for years to just switch to PC. This was the first big push.
So I get my own, and I play everyone's favorite Deck heavy hitters. The sheer amount of games I can play on this device truly amaze me. Even more amazing was how well SteamOS operates, looks, and feels, and how well it integrates all things without being full of advertisements and bloatware.
Not to mention the upgradability. I've put a 2TB SSD in it, and a 1TB MicroSD. Later on I'll probably put some better thumbsticks in it, but that's a later problem.
A few days ago I put together my first PC, which was the final push to drop Xbox completely. Cancelled the Live/Gamepass subscription, and my Series X will pretty much be a couch co-op machine anymore, as rare as that happens.
Recently I brought my Deck on a week long trip to stay with some friends, and while they were out, I was constantly entertained. I plugged it into the Valve Dock and the thing just works. I also got into EMUdeck and have all of my favorite childhood games on it now too.
To say that I'm happy with it would be an understatement. I am so thrilled to have this little thing. While it's not the most powerful gaming machine I have, it IS the most versatile. If I want to play modern COD titles or Starfield/Cyberpunk with really high settings, then I have my beast of a PC.
I don't post here much, mainly lurk, but I get the sense that the vast majority of people feel similarly about the Deck. 2025 is really a great time to get into gaming with the sheer amount of these versatile devices we have now. The Steam Deck to me just offers the best package out of all of them.
Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading.
