Pascal is 100% correct. The movie cameras were used effectively by the Nazis and Communists to push their agendas and propaganda.

Ah everyone's favourite daddy is so wonderful 😍

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 6 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I hope he doesnt get crushed over this.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

He's Mr Fantastic you can't crush him.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago

He won't if people would stand up with him.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 14 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I don’t wanna be too optimistic but it does feel like things are moving in the right direction for now. As long as we stand together and fight for what is right and don’t give an inch to them we can and will overcome this.

Send a sternly worded letter!

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Now now, there's no need to be extreme. Keep the letter polite, and show a little good will by agreeing to everything the fascists propose.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 33 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

They're moving in the absolute wrong direction.

Yes, actors, people, some NGOs are aligning.

But ALL the money is getting in line behind him, like you cannot begin to imagine.

This is going to be a very brutal summer.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I fully agree yes this summer is going to be extremely hard for us I just hope that we can unite and stand against them. Either that or we will be slowly cooked. I try to be as optimistic as possible especially now even if it’s just spreading words and knowledge every little thing matters now.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'm old.

This was a fight that needed to happen back in 2010.

We lost it over the last 1.5 decades.

From my point of view, this is the cow, already in the restraints with the boltgun against their head saying "Maybe we should start thinking about a plan."

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I fully agree with everything you are saying. I’m 42 and I’ve seen this country go down hill since 9/11 and honestly you can go all the way back to the 80s with Regan with how the gop has dismantled everything and put us in this situation. We just gotta do the best we can together I know that sounds all happily ever after and yes things are doom and gloom now.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

They were trying to prevent The New Deal before it even happened with Wilson. They've been dismantling The New Deal since Roosevelt signed it.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 136 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

if you give an inch, they'll take EVERYTHING.

these are NOT good people we're up against. and it sucks that some of them are friends and family. if "he" has done one thing well, it's that he's separated the wheat from the chaff. be strong, and never forget that you matter.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 62 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fuck yes. This is starting to be about simply: "who is a good person?" It's us, and fuck them. Our side is about freedom, personal liberty, empathy, and moving FORWARD as a society.

[–] Nay@feddit.nl 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I agree with this applied to those in power. But our family and neighbors can come back from this with a little humble empathy from us when they do.

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 12 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

How far do things have to go before "humble empathy" towards those actively supporting the US regime becomes inappropriate? Gas chambers? War against Canada? Nuclear war?

The stakes have never been higher, and personally I'm not willing to humbly give the benefit of the doubt to someone who literally voted for Hitler. They are either dumb as a fucking brick or more likely (according to Trump's polling) they are actively seeking harm against their own neighbors and relishing on the fact that the regime is gleefully committing as many human rights violations as it can get away with.

We've done the "just forget about it and move on" strategy, and it led to Trump being reelected even harder. Maybe when this is over (whenever that is) we go back to the tried-and-true strategy of fucking shaving everyone of these wastes of breath down to the bone to expose their crimes.

[–] Nay@feddit.nl 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

I am by no means saying we "forget about it and move on."

Empathy is not forgiveness. Empathy is not returning to the status quo. There is rampant mental illness in this country on "both sides" and we need to learn how to move forward together without forgetting what happened or we aren't going anywhere. We barely knew what mental health even was after WW2.

There will be those that are too far gone and those who actively wished for the pain of others. Those are special cases, but the majority of Trump voters voted out of fear, not hate. If you believe it was more about hate; Congratulations you've been successfully propagandized.

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Those are special cases, but the majority of Trump voters voted out of fear, not hate.

[citation needed]

Here's one: As of April 30th 14 % of Americans think Trump hasn't gone far enough with the unconstitutional deportation and rendition of immigrants to El Salvador's concentration camps. Another 33 % of Americans think it's "been about right". 52 % oppose it.
I do not see how it is possible to interpret that any other way than Americans are voting and supporting this administration out of hate. This isn't about the price of eggs. This isn't about voting "out of habit". When asked, specifically, about the horrific and hateful practices that are most emblematic of Trump's discourse of wanton hatred, half of American people actively support it.

Think whatever the hell you want about how to deal with that, but I draw the line at giving these people the benefit of the doubt. They don't deserve it, and they would not do the same for you.

[–] Nay@feddit.nl 1 points 4 hours ago

Polls are insanely subjective. I don't think they should be used as evidence for anything. The majority of Trump supporters are not bad people, but I bet CNN would like you to believe they are.

As far as that citation, I don't have one. But I know that virtually no one sees themself as a bad person. We're all just trying to survive and protect the people we love.

I know we're all emotional because this is a fucked up time to be living through, but the ruling class wants us hating as much of our class as possible. We can't give in to that.

Think whatever the hell you want about how to deal with that, but I draw the line at giving these people the benefit of the doubt. They don't deserve it, and they would not do the same for you.

I never said anything about benefit of the doubt. I'm saying when they realize they fucked up, treat them with the dignity and respect that every human deserves. And if they never stop being shit people... Fuck 'em.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

I'm prepared to give that empathy while also, now, recognizing in my life that these are toxic people and their political stances are harming other innocent people, and all of us as a country. Personally I'm holding even my closest loved ones at a distance until they develop empathy themselves. An ignorant villain is still a villain

I'm warming up to this Pedro fella. Maybe I'll watch some of his films.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

So, you're not gonna watch his films?

Trump is straight up dangerous because of how unhinged this senile orange is and how retaliatory he is for anything that mildly offends his stupid ass. This is how dictators behave and surprise to no one, Trump behaves like a dictator. Nothing but constant stupid threats, punishment of people who disagree with him, military parades and praising of other dictators of the world. He's 5 months into his second term and he has fucked up EVERYTHING. He just needs to be removed from power, one way or the other. I frankly don't really care how at this point. Courts move so slowly and he seems to have no regards for existing laws. So, use your imagination on alternative methods.

To all the Americans, ask yourselves, has anything in past 5 months indicated that Trump gives a shit about anyone other than himself and his corrupt rich buddies? You think he gives a shit about cost of healthcare, groceries (especially eggs) and gas, everything that is so beautiful and at the lowest prices ever, but only in his orange head and nowhere else? America, wake the fuck up and get this clown our of your office. He's a fucking embarrassment. Literally entire world is laughing at your clown president.

“Fuck the people that try to make you scared,” -Pascal

Dude, you're promoting a horror film.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

Different type of fear.

The cops are real; Jason and Freddy aren’t.

Maybe he meant that in the other way :)
