Best thing for Zelensky is really meeting Trump one on one, without his chaotic advisors dissuading and adding fuel to the fire.

Trump is a coward at heart, he'll be less likely to throw tantrums and play the "big man" act without his cheerleaders around. Plus, meeting on neutral ground is also great, since the worst place to meet a bully is in his own home, where he feels safe and calls the shots.

Still, not that it matters much in the end. Even if Zelensky convinced Trump of anything through stroking his ego, his cheerleaders will talk him right out of it as soon as he leaves the Vatican. Or Putin, after a quick call. That's how fickle he is.

I don’t believe in God, but if that rapist felon dropped dead in front of everyone, it might change my mind.

I hope you wore a suit and said thank you.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

It would have to be like a lightning strike or something... If he has a heart attack or stroke that would just be expected.

I would convert to whatever god put that pos down. I would become the poster child for them.

Dude wore a blue suit to a Catholic funeral.🤦‍♂️

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 62 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Not "a Catholic funeral", the fucking Pope's funeral. I'm not religious at all but only a right psychopath would not try to attend a funeral with some respect for those who are attending.

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 35 points 1 day ago

To be fair, he wasn't there for the Pope.

It's a PR game, why do you think he wore BLUE when everyone else wore black?

[–] boreengreen@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Donald doesn't reall exude respect.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

He exudes several things (the distinct odour of shit and the scent of Russian cum are quite noticeable) but respect is generally not amongst his many secretions.

Is it a rule? I'm not Catholic

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s a Roman Catholic custom. The Pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, so it’s kind of a bigger deal than going to a family funeral.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

It's a custom not to wear blue?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

He should've worn tan

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I want to criticize him for his blue suit at a funeral so bad, but then I get Obama "tan suit" vibes from myself and gotta reel it back. It just feels so intentional, like he just HAD to stick out and make sure everyone knew where he was seated. Only one in blue in a sea of black, yuck.

[–] AcidicBasicGlitch@lemm.ee 1 points 10 hours ago

"I get Obama tan suit vibes from myself"

Exactly this, there is so much shit to be angry about right now. If you're Catholic, I understand why this is something you might focus on, but it's like everything he does in every moment as president is offensive.

With Obama and the tan suit, they needed to create something to make people upset. Focusing on the suit right now almost feels like a distraction from the insanity of literally every other aspect of his presidency.

Like when Melania wore the "I don't care do you?" to visit children in deportation centers. We know these people are scum, we know they are IRL edgelords seeking attention on an international stage.

There's shit they want you to get angry about and focus on, and then there's the shit they're trying so hard to keep quiet. Just make sure you don't let the things they're trying to keep quiet go unnoticed.

[–] ctrl_alt_esc@lemmy.ml 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're giving him too much credit. He simply doesn't know that people usually wear black at funerals.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, he's definitely attention seeking.

He will literally push his way past other leaders to be in the spotlight

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

That’s exactly what it is. He’s an attention whore.

[–] Tm12@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Feel free to criticize other things…

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

The White House described the 15-minute meeting as "very productive" and Zelensky later called it "very symbolic"

Yeah. I know they included a picture, but based on that description I was expecting a conversation between two adjacent stalls in the john

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Why in St Pete’s? Seems like an odd setting for a diplomatic meeting.
