Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

sure what the hell. Announce thirteen billion percent tariffs next. 73 quintillion percent. eleventy gabillion percent. 29 brazillian percent. 35 dodecagorillion percent. who cares.

If even a single solar cell makes it to America from Asia, the US will collapse.

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 46 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just ban them? Call them terrorist cells or something

no-choice We had no choice but to nuke the Sun for giving material support to Terrorist Cells.

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Surely nuking the Sun only makes it stronger?!

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

No, it uses hydrogen as fuel. When it gets too many heavier elements then the energy produced from fusion pushing outward becomes less than the force of gravity pulling inwards. When that happens it explodes into a supernova or becomes a black hole if it's too giga. Therefore giving it more heavy elements like the byproducts of nuclear fission would cause it to end its lifecycle faster. Infinitesimally small difference, perhaps less than if you just put a 45lb iron plate into a warhead and shot it into the sun.

Sure, but I'd bet that negligible time shaved off its lifecycle is less than the energy added by the nuclear explosion. The increased energy and outward force may even increase its lifespan.

That's dependent on the nuclear pile going critical, which I assume it would, but actually working that out is.. some ways beyond me, and highly depends on the missile design/explosion time/what you count as "increasing sun energy" versus "exploding next to the Sun", I guess.

Where were you before we nuked the Sun, Einstein? picard

[–] Civility@hexbear.net 50 points 4 days ago

Because 3,402% isn't quite enough but 3,404% would be going too far.

Really glad I work in the solar industry and the president is actively trying to destroy it!

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 21 points 4 days ago

Kudos to you for managing to get into one of the few arguably beneficial sectors of the economy, though

Empire is just comically floppy-parrot because it has no real answer.

"Mr. President - US tariffs are as high as about 3,400% on solar cells from Southeast Asia. But now you're saying—"

"Excuse me, excuse me. You are the lying fake news media."

"I... I don't understand."

"I know you don't understand - lying fake news media. 3,40 and 3 percent."

"Ah. But now you're saying you're going to double that? We're trying to get clarity."

"Yeah, double. So 9,80 and 6 percent."

Missing a great meme opportunity to do 9001% Tariffs.

[–] xj9@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

I was gonna buy some solar panels this year god dammit. I probably missed my chance to get cheap electronics huh?
