https://gohug.eu/join/alternatives/ lists Exit 50 as a service for finding European alternatives. It gives wrong information about where companies are based in. For example, it claims that Brave browser is by a Swiss company, even though it's American. At one point, it claimed that McDonald's is a Swiss company, but now it doesn't say where it's based on. Excluding one alternative, all the alternatives for McDonald's are American (such as KFC, Domino's Pizza, Burger King), even though it claims otherwise. I'm sure there are many other examples. This type of service should in my opinion give accurate information. Because of that, I think it should be removed.

I agree. Did try a few searches before I added them and did not see any glaring errors. But checking more of their listings it seems they might have just scraped wrong data. Can confirm your findings and removed them.
Thank you!
Pretty cool! I love that lemmy is quite visible on your page and that you link to !GoHugEU@lemm.ee on your about page.
I've often tried to link newjoiners some of our older posts where we had some really good discussion going on here in this community but have trouble finding them. Might use gohug to find links, thanks :)
Edit: wording
Thank you for your encouraging words!
Let me know if you miss anything. I'll keep adding & maintaining anyways, but any recommendations are appreciated.
Will do! :)
I don't have anything to do add right now, but a fix suggestion:
"Community feed Buy European@feedit.uk" -> there's a typo in "feddit".
Was supposed to write that earlier but forgot sorry!
Oh, good eye. Typo is fixed.
They list Stadtpage even tho it is majority american owned
Interesting. Did not know that:
Startpage is a global privacy technology company that was founded in 2006 in the Netherlands. It is owned by a Dutch company, which is operated from its headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands. Startpage is also part of System1, a publicly traded company based in the United States. System1, through its subsidiary Privacy One Group, acquired a majority stake in Startpage in October 2019. Despite this acquisition, Startpage has maintained its commitment to privacy and continues to operate under the leadership of its founders, including Robert E.G. Beens, who is the Co-Founder and CEO
Personally I see any switch away from big tech (ideally to FOSS) as win. We don't need to be perfect, but try our best. In the end a lot of people doing it imperfectly will have a bigger impact than a few people doing it perfectly.
That said I'll most likely remove it from the selection in the next couple of days.
Edit: replaced it with Karma search
Nice work! Gohug, is that short for something, or does it mean what it reads, i.e. go hug the EU?
Thank you!
No abbreviation - quite literally a place to show some appreciation for EU/Europe... and short.
