Image is of the breach in the tailings dam near Kitwe.

On February 18th, 50 million liters of acidic waste from a copper mine was accidentally released into the Kafue River after a tailings dam collapsed. The Kafue River stretches for a thousand miles across Zambia and a majority of the country - millions of people - rely on it, for both the economy and drinking water.

The results have already been catastrophic. The water supply for the city of Kitwe, home to 700,000 people, was completely shut off. As the wave of contamination moved downstream, a wave of death accompanied it as dead fish dotted the river surface. The government is dropping lime into the river to try and counteract the acid with an alkali and neutralize the water, but the tailings also contain toxic heavy metals that will undoubtably seep into the nearby environment and affect the area for years to come.

A considerable portion of the media attention to the accident has been devoted to the fact that the mine was Chinese-owned, as well as China's broader influence and investment in the region. Western anti-China propaganda aside, it has been clear to those in the know that these mines have been badly managed and needlessly dangerous for years now, and it is disappointing - to say the least - to see disasters of this magnitude occur from Chinese businesses. Hopefully this prompts a wave of investigations into China-owned mine managers all around the continent, who will then hopefully face real consequences for their actions.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

During today’s long phone call between Trump and Putin, they agreed upon a 30 day ceasefire on energy and infrastructure related targets only. Some in the White House and elsewhere had been hyping up the talks, suggesting that a real 30 day ceasefire and “conflict freeze” would be agreed upon (so that Washington could rescue the Kiev regime military from its ongoing destruction). Russia, of course, rejected that kind of laughably self-defeating proposal.

Here’s also a little other news from Russia’s special military operation.

The Kiev regime attempted invading Belgorod oblast, near Demidovka. Russian defenders repelled the attack, eliminating around 60 attackers, one tank, and seven other armored fighting vehicles: https://www.rt.com/russia/614450-ukrainian-cross-border-attacks/

Russian investigators uncovered evidence that Kiev regime troops massacred 17 civilians and buried them in three unmarked graves in Kharkov oblast, north of Kiev-occupied Kupyansk, before fleeing the area: https://tass.com/politics/1929761

A surrendered Ukrainian soldier stated that Western mercenaries shoot retreating Kiev regime troops in Kursk oblast: https://news-pravda.com/world/2025/03/17/1151006.html

A Russian ground drone destroyed another Kiev regime military position (video): https://odysee.com/@Support4Z:b/%F0%9F%93%BD%EF%B8%8F-A-%F0%9F%87%AC%F0%9F%87%A7-%F0%9F%87%AB%F0%9F%87%B7,--Use-of-ground-drone-against-Ukrainian-fascists!!:1

Does anyone think that Iran will respond to the re-continued genocide or no?

[–] Cimbazarov@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

I mean Iran must realize their days are numbered until the US aggression starts coming into their country (rather than just at their doorstep as it is now)

[–] wtypstanaccount04@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

Unless Iran is involved directly I doubt they will respond

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

Definitely not

[–] Fishroot@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not really the previous responses by Iran are mostly theatrical since the targets are made known to Israel via USA

Food is starting to run out in Gaza as Israel resumes bombing raids. “My son cries all night from hunger, and I have nothing to give him,” says one resident. The ceasefire has been broken and Israel has suspended the entry of food and medicine.

Following his successful assassination of Iran’s top general Qassim Suleimani in 2020, Donald Trump seems to have taken the lesson that aggressive action is relatively cost-free.

I would hope the past year would wake Iran up to the fact that their "restraint" is only seen as weakness by the empire. I have held my tongue on this here for a while, but I am increasingly of the opinion Khamenei is not the man for this moment.

Today, people in Caracas, Venezuela, marched to protest Trump and Bukele's criminalization of Venezuelan migrants, who have been labeled as terrorists and traded as slaves. Families of victims of Trump and Bukele's human rights violations marched with photos of their loved ones and demanded their immediate release and return to Venezuela.

One mother delivered a letter to Venezuelan authorities accusing the opposition Primero Justicia party of having lured her son and other young people to emigrate to the United States by offering them a better quality of life. They were given proof of party membership that would supposedly be used to grant them political asylum, then they were abandoned.

On the topic of what China should be doing about Israel, this one has gone under the radar for obvious reasons: PowerChina Completes Israel’s Largest Pumped Storage Power Station

The Kokhav Hayarden Pumped Storage Power Station, constructed by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), has been officially commissioned for commercial operation. The project is the world’s lowest-altitude pumped storage power station and the largest of its kind in Israel.

As a key national infrastructure project in Israel, the power station is located in the Gilboa mountain range in northeastern Israel. It is also the first pumped storage project undertaken by a Chinese company overseas.

Designed with a total installed capacity of 344 megawatts, the station features upper and lower reservoirs, each with a storage capacity of 3.1 million cubic meters. Operating with a rated head of 410 meters, the facility is equipped with two reversible pump-turbine units, each with a capacity of 172 MW. Once operational, it will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and stability of Israel’s power grid.

The project was executed under an engineering, procurement and construction contract, which was awarded to a consortium comprising PowerChina and General Electric Company.

China is exporting its state-of-the-art technology to help build Israel’s infrastructure. Maybe they should invite Israel to join Belt and Road as well.

Approximately eight hours after Trump and Putin's talks resulted in a 30-day halt on strikes against energy facilities between Russia and Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck an oil reservoir near Kavkazskaya Prior to the attack, Russian forces intercepted several of their own drones aimed at Ukrainian energy facilities immediately after the agreement was reached.

Israel’s Defense Minister Katz:

Residents of Gaza, this is your final warning. The first Sinwar destroyed Gaza, and the second Sinwar will bring upon it total ruin. The Israeli Air Force's attack against Hamas terrorists was only the first step. What follows will be far harsher, and you will bear the full cost.

Evacuation of the population from combat zones will soon resume. If all Israeli hostages are not released and Hamas is not kicked out of Gaza, Israel will act with force you have not known before.

Take the advice of the U.S. President: return the hostages and kick out Hamas, and new options will open up for you—including relocation to other parts of the world for those who choose. The alternative is destruction and total devastation.

"Ethnically cleanse yourselves or we'll genocide you."

The only way to more directly admit that you intend to commit genocide is to literally say "I intend to commit genocide".

Makes a deal. Changes the deal midway. Then claims Hamas violated the changed deal which was not agreed to. Rinse and repeat all day with these fascists.

The doomer this post evokes out of us is the remnant of fantasy that liberalism means anything at all. That international law, collaboration, human rights, and liberties and freedoms that the liberal world order evoked, extolled, and rhetorically imported were going to overcome (or at the least be useful in combating) barbarism, depravity, and oppression. That the world would get eventually better.

Your post's resignation into despair reminded me of this post from 2020's Floyd protests/uprising in r/communism:

Contrary to the liberal worldview, we are not merely in a state of misalignment or misunderstanding. Rather, we understand one another perfectly, and exist in a state of conflict against one another. The middle ground between us collapses like an engulfed McDonalds..."

If you've read Lenin's literature, Marx, or Mao, you'll find that these communists view the world in the same way the ruling class does: cynically, dryly, and without mercy. The question is, what is to be done about it.

Sharing Katz's statement across the internet and in real world social spaces will prove to sway people on the fence. And unfortunately with heavy media censorship, obfuscation, and disparagement there will be people on the fence. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence, which both hurts and helps Israel's case - because there is so much to choose from it almost is surreal - so it's important to point out, highlight, and prove Israeli government minister and legislator's quotes, threats, and public policies.

It is important to point out that Israel's withholding of food, water, fuel, and electricity, and letting disease and starvation run rampant is consistent with their open stated public policy, and it is important to mention the West Bank is also under apartheid and ethnic cleansing despite Hamas not being there.

[–] Salem@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Unfortunately this is not the era where decades happen in weeks.

On how leftists once complained how nothing ever happens, the truth is that the state is actively and preemptively suppressing, jailing, and killing activists, compromising organizers, and defanging any liberal challengers to their hegemony.

Where liberals used to mock East European communist states of being police states with secret police that jail and destroy you without a fair trial, that has now come to pass in a brazen and open manner even against the racially protected castes in the US. Where protests used to mean something, the ruling class can now ignore and be indifferent to those movements, and have now elected to spy and violently remove protesters and their organizers with threats of 10+ years in prison and/or deportation.

The truth of the matter is that even millions of people protesting against Trump, or the federal government will not be enough. It has to take coherent and stated goals that bring an existential crisis and danger to the American public. That notion being, this government will kill and destroy our way of life beyond mere inconvenience .

Some of the darkest offhand shit I’ve read jfc “a flawless execution” Louisiana puts man to death in state’s first nitrogen gas execution

Jessie Hoffman Jr., 46, was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m. at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, authorities said, adding the nitrogen gas had flowed for 19 minutes during what one official characterized as a “flawless” execution.

Witnesses to the execution said Hoffman appeared to involuntarily shake or had “some convulsive activity.” But the three witnesses who spoke — including two members of the media — agreed that, based on the protocol and what they learned about the execution method, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Witness Gina Swanson, a reporter with WDSU, described the execution from her viewpoint as “clinical” and “procedural.” She said there was nothing that occurred during the process that made her think, “Was that right? Was that how it was supposed to go?”

No redactions my ass. But what are there is reams and reams of US fuckery with Cuba and Castro. US plotting on manufacturing false flags of deliberate harm or death to US personnel, soilders, Cuban exiles. Sabatoging socialist meetings in their early development. Using VOA to to "Black propaganda" in foriegn nations.

Also the fustration with not being able to launch these types of attacks from the US Homeland as that would violate US policy. They really didn't care who was hurt or harmed as long as it would trigger the overthrow of Castro.

More than 1,000 US meatpackers have lost their export registrations to China, affecting big companies like Tyson and Cargill. The expiration could cause losses of up to US$ 5 billion and further damage US producers. The Chinese government has not renewed the registrations, despite repeated requests from the US. The US Department of Agriculture warns that this could violate the “Phase 1” agreement, which requires China to update its list of suppliers within 20 days of receiving information from the USDA.

The US exported US$ 2.5 billion in meat to China last year, making it the country's third largest supplier. The suspension of sales would affect producers of chicken feet and pork offal, products that are little consumed domestically.

US airstrikes continue on Yemen for the fifth night in a row. First airstrikes reported at 16:47 UTC. Seperate, multiple strikes have taken place in Sadaa city, the capital city Sana'a, Al Bayda' Governorate, Sana'a Governorate and Al Jawf Governorate.

Given that the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier is only 700-800km from Yemen today, I suspect an intense aerial bombardment is incoming, similar to the first night...

Renewed airstrikes reported in Hodeidah and Sadaa Governorates.

More strikes in Saada.

Reports that another MQ-9 Reaper drone was shot down over Yemen, and reports of a Yemeni ballistic missile being launched at Israel. The missile was likely intercepted, given there is no reports of an impact. No statement from the Yemeni Armed Forces on either incident yet.

Yemeni Armed Forces will provide a statement at 3:10 UTC.
