It'd upvote it instantly, but sadly, I deleted my Reddit account last weekend, after I made a lemmy account ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Feels like a lot of users there are more for the performative changes (Oooh look I bought a pair of adidas trainers & an off brand cola) rather than actually steering away from major US owned services such as FB, Insta, Reddit

I thought about chiming in on that discussion, but the majority of people focus narrow-mindedly on commercial X/FB/Insta/TikTok competitors instead of available solutions (fediverse). It is a lost discussion from the get-go and OP even dismissed fediverse-solutions as not appealing enough for his grandma.

So instead of building a better place or improving on things, folks start having a wet dream of a big money grab with new ad infested services.
