It's also censored on RedNote, btw, here's a completely unrelated image.

So the x is for them not voting right?

why did Germany not vote yay...

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 49 points 1 week ago

X is Abstain yeah. All the countries that abstained did so to show the US that they're good little vassals.

The official reason is that apparently saying "Nazism is bad" will lend validity to Russia's claim to be denazifying Ukraine. How that looks worse than Ukraine voting to allow Nazism is unclear.

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

Truly one of the world's great mysteries /s

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

X is abstain, blank is no vote

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Gotta love how basically all western countries abstained.

Russia has done a lot of things wrong over recent years but one thing they are still consistently winning at is absolutely crushing Nazis wherever they can

[–] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 58 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A while back (like years now) there was a thread on here talking about Russia under Yeltsin, and how basically nazi gangs were running rampant brutalizing people after the fall of the USSR. Once Putin came in, for all his other faults, he had those sorts eradicated and any remnants suppressed.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 54 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I bet it's been a massive boost to their morale in Ukraine to have the country infested with nazis. People won't want to fight for bourgeois interests in horrifying wars. People will, however, sign up to kill nazis for free. That's especially true in Eastern Europe where the nazis did most of their dirt outside of Germany. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War are still alive and they have family who won't hesitate to follow in their footsteps.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

I bet it's been a massive boost to their morale in Ukraine to have the country infested with nazis.

I've seen reactions of both Russian troops and civilians over this and the reactions I've seen are a mix of betrayal that people who are supposed to be their brothers despise them and genuine horror at the level of Nazism in Ukraine. I don't think the Russians were unsure of how bad the Nazism was, I think instead they see Ukraine as a genuine threat even to the average civilian (in Kursk Ukrainian troops and foreign mercs were literally gunning down civilians) and it's still as unfathomable an evil as it was in WW2. I genuinely believe by the time the war started the level of Nazism in Ukraine was no mystery to the average Russian.

[–] awth13@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Yeah, except the Russian Nazis, those are fine 🙄

Sometimes people on this website do buy into Russian propaganda too much.

[–] Saeculum@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (4 children)

People go for critical support because it opposes the US's interests and somehow forget that the USSR has been dead for over thirty years and the Russian Federation is a bourgeoisie oligarchy wearing its corpse as a mask.

[–] borschtisgarbo@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The reason people critically support Russia is for that exact reason

[–] Saeculum@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have critical support, just that people seem to assume they are better than they really are once that support has been given.

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

any leftist who opposes a mutlipolar world and the weakening of US-NATO, most likely lives in the Imperial core or one of its vassal states. They have no problem with the US being the lone superpower with the ability to crush or starve any country that tries to implement a more equitable system that goes against the US "rules based order". With the rise of China and Russia and the weakening of US-NATO, countries like Cuba, Venezuela, DPRK etc, will have breathing space to chart their own path, instead of being constantly under the jackboot of US Imperialism. Just look at the recent Cuban energy crisis, which countries sent aid? Russia, China and Mexico. Is Russia sending this aid due to past socialist relations? Nah, but instead of constant US led colour revolution attempts, that some Western "leftists" have no problem with and even support, stability in these countries is geopolitically better for Russia-China.

I don't disagree, but the path Russia seems to be charting is one of bourgeoisie oligarchy. Not something to admire.

Hell doesn't the Wagner group name have highly questionable origins from Utkin?

The difference is that the Nazis in Ukraine are supported by a nation with a global economic and military hegemony and are being exported to support other imperialist projects.

Like nations choosing to support and side with Russia and China against their colonial aggressors. Or nations seeking their own independence.

Do you think Imperialism is when country attack other country?

[–] TheGenderWitch@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

russian fascism is definitely an issue where russia could improve, but not nearly the same as ukraine just being massively filled with armed nazi battallions

[–] awth13@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

“Both are the same but one is maybe slightly better” doesn’t quite ring the same as “absolutely crushing Nazis wherever they can”, does it?

Anyone, especially anyone into dialectical materialism, who lived in Russia or otherwise heavily interacted with the Russian world will tell you that the issues of xenophobia, race supremacy, nationalism, revanchism, monarchy and empire idealisation, etc. run deep in the Russian society and government (similarities to a certain other European country in the 1930s unintentional). Fascism is not a single wart on the body of Russia, it’s a disease that has spread throughout. Framing it as something that “Russia could improve” is not wrong but is misleading – like saying that Christian fanaticism is something that the US could improve when it is one of the defining features of the US as a state and country.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Yeah this is true. There is a reason the American right have a crush on them. There is a serious rot in there thats been festering since the fall of USSR.

[–] TheGenderWitch@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

very true, i agree. Its sad too that the communist parties are nothing more than controlled opposition who do more nationalist pandering than actual organizing. I hope for things to get better, but im running out of hope lol.

god i miss lenin, stalin, and the bolsheviks

[–] awth13@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The saddest part for me is that even grassroots Russian communist spaces fall into *phobic rhetoric when it comes to immigrants or queer people. I also can’t imagine things getting better at this point.

[–] TheGenderWitch@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

all that can be done is to build those forces when possible and to aid fellow LGBTQ when possible.

I don’t fuck with that account, anybody speak ukranian?

[–] awth13@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Yes, this is actually what they said. @gay_king_prince_charles@hexbear.net is right though, it’s taken out of context.

They already subtitled it for you lol

Маск только что зиганул, ну, наш человек, получается

lol

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago (4 children)

And I’m saying I didn’t trust the subtitler

This also seems like something where context matters and it might be a bit

Russia is bad guys, which means they were just censoring him because they hate autism! We should get a group of celebrities like Mark Hamill and Stephen King together to do this same gesture to show Russia that we aren't afraid of them!

[–] coolusername@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 week ago

very plausible cia narrative

[–] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago

Wow, Russia censors free speech? Not surprised!

[–] philluminati@lemmy.ml 37 points 1 week ago (8 children)

Does this mean Russia has to invade? To get rid of the racists?

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 45 points 1 week ago

Fingers crossed.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Killing nazis is good, so....

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

maybe not an invasion, but just send some Oreshnik missiles

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

My country yearns for freedom!

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Putin, please commence denazification when ready

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Ideally they can just get them with some Polonium tea.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

Russian TV way ahead of APnews on this one.
