I wanted to emphasize some context that feels left out. This is from my comment in another thread.
Do you remember when Linus said adblock is piracy? Late Jan of 22? Remember how well everyone took that, and said that creators' earnings should be protected? That he was absolutely right, and thanks for bringing this to their attention? Me either. He got tore apart. People were happy to continue robbing creators of their adsense revenue.
One month later, March of 22, is when they dropped Honey. He was already in an environment where people were shitting on him for daring to say people might want to consider the consequences of their choices. Why on earth would he think anyone cared about creators, when the whole world was telling him that they didn't?
Edit: TLDR; Linus asked the world to care about creators' well-being a month before dropping Honey, the world said "shut the fuck up," and then he did.
