Considering how well Ukraine treats its prisoners of war (as opposed to how well Russia and North Korea treat their soldiers), this may very well be the best thing that's ever happened to them.

Pretty sure NK conditions their soldiers to think the good treatment is a trap and the wardens are just waiting for them to drop their guard.

Freed, I'd hope. At some point. Hopefully not returned to North Korea. Unless they have family or something. Difficult situation.
