I just finished my first (and likely only) playthrough of Horizon Forbidden West+DLC Burning Shores (I loved the previous game Horizon Zero Dawn).

I wasn't prepared to get slapped in the face with sinophobia (the writing re: the Quen) but yeah it really soured my experience. I know it's not like super overt but I understood the angle where it was coming from and what the writing was trying to communicate to its audience. Maybe I'll find it funny in a few weeks (as many sinophobic tropes/accusations are more reflective of the west than they are of china;; "moral lessons" about finding the truth for yourself is much more applicable to westerners "forced" to reiterate antichina-isms than it is applicable to whatever the average westerner thinks about censorship and free speech in china) but right now I'm just unhappy.

At least I didn't spend money on it this time around🏴‍☠️

Haven't been able to play much this past month due to some personal issues, but I started up NGU Idle and It's been a blast.

Favorite genres have to be city-builders/sims, and strategic or turn-based combat games.

Didn't watch TGA since it's super bloated, but I did see and enjoy the BG3 director's comments about the industry.

The thing I enjoyed most this year is personal, but I started playing a lot more of the silly co-op games with friends and it's a great way to spend time with them when they don't live close.

I am playing enlisted (ww2 multi-player first person shooter) and WOWS (naval warfare simulator) as a way to disconnect my brain.

Also emush from eternal twin group project which is a recreation of a real time (multiple days) cooperative game kind of merging alien and the thing movies. The game predates among us but is kinda similar.

Quite fun due to the mistery and cooperation element, not gonna lie, but on long runs you are just fighting the environment by repairing the ship which is breaking down basically every other cycle (3h per cycle, on cycle changes stuff happens)

I mean, WOWS is my true "disconnect brain return to monkee", point and click adventure.

Enlisted does require some thinking on where to attack from and trying to predict where enemies and their defenses will be, but the actual combat engagements is all muscle memory by now becaude I have played that shooter very often.

Played Recently:

Been on a hell of a Warframe kick, with the 1999 update releasing. I don't stick with it constantly, but it is always the live service game I keep finding myself coming back to. The amount of content is staggering, and everything always feels relevant so I never get the FOMO that some live service games try to force. The 90s theme of everything in the update is targeting my personal nostlagia centers directly and I love it.

Genres:

Automation, Factory, Strategy, RPG. I like most anything made well, though I shy away from FPS a bit.

TGA 2024 Announcement:

Intergalactic looks pretty amazing, I am a big fan of that kind of retro futuristic aesthetic as well. I am always excited to see what Team Ico pulls off, though I tend to like looking at their games more than playing them.

2024

My favourite thing from 2024 was probably Astrobot. It was just an unadultered delight of a game and won my number 1 spot on my personal GOTY list easily. The sheer volume of factory games we seem to be getting these days is also great for me. Some fantastic JRPGs with stuff like Metaphor and P3 Reload as well.

Been playing a lot of South Park Fractured But Whole, pretty funny game and the combat is decent. I think it’s slightly better than Stick of Truth. Other than that I just finished RDR2 and I wanna play RDR1 soon

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah, slightly better than the first one is my estimate as well. Same with RDR2.

Been playing a lot of GTA V and grinding online, I still have to grind on lobbies with nobody else in there tho bc most players are assholes that ruin your missions
