Trade between Taiwan and China is something like $270 billion. Taiwan is one of China's biggest export partners (larger than Russia, Malaysia, France, Brazil) and one of China's biggest import partners (literally the biggest, I think).

Cultural penetration is significant and bilateral mobility across the strait is very high. Anyone who seriously sees hot war as a possibility is delusional. At worst, we may see a Kennedy-style quarantine of Taiwan if too many US weapons make their way to the island.

Seems like a good thing. Helps lead towards a more sympathetic and symbiotic relationship and a stepping stone to peaceful relations between the two countries. Anything that gets them further from a hostile invasion is a step in the right direction.

Taiwan-China relations were downright friendly until 2016. Not really sure what's changed since then.

This is some bipolar shit. One second shooting missiles at you and proclaiming that you will take Taiwan by force if necessary, next second talking about co-operation and mutual benefit. At least the CCP is transparent about their end goals I guess. Also, fuck the CCP.

Doesn't Taiwan claim that they are the real China and have territorial claims on the mainland?
