Alpha Beta

Well, I guess now we're not learning about statistics, protein folding, or radioactive decay. I hope you're all happy with yourselves.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 18 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

or radioactive decay

Gamma and neutron emission are still allowed

  1. Cold in here

Those poor kids

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 53 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

I was doubting if I'm too old to get the reference, or if it's a legit complaint from the kids.

Also, what's wrong with "chat"?

[–] TurboMars3@lemmy.world 134 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Some kids talk to an imaginary stream chat like a streamer would.

Ex.- "Chat, is this real?" Or "Can you believe this, chat?"

Learning English from celebrities doing their job rather than from normal people isamn interesting trend.

[–] LotzaSpaghetti@sh.itjust.works 46 points 23 hours ago

Probably phrased something like how a streamer might speak, β€œchat, are we ____?” which I could imagine getting old 2.5 milliseconds after the class starts saying it on repeat.

  1. Tweaking (Emma only) πŸ˜‚

Lemma guess, Emma uses β€˜Tweaking’ every other sentence?

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Tweaking once was chemsex when it wasn't experimenting with the fine-tuning of your amateur radio array.

Now its erratic behavior like someone on stimulants trying to fine tune their radio array to pick up alien chatter.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 11 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Tweaking has been plain meth use for a loooooooooong time, not sure what the kids mean by it now

I love skibidibi. It just sounds neat.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 2 points 10 hours ago

To people complaining about never getting Half Life 3...

You get skibidi toilet, okay? That's how the story ends.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

You skibidi toilet, you!

[–] dgmib@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

As a Gen-X’er I read this and started wondering what β€œGyatt” means…. As an (ex-)redditor I know not to ask.

[–] echolalia@lemmy.ml 43 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

It is a reference to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Gen alpha is very interested in the history of international trade and the rise of the global market economy.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 16 hours ago

Not gun in Korean, as per Johnny Gatt?

[–] Ostrichgrif@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I work with kids, it essentially means ass but has a sexualized context to it. Most kids approaching high school realize this and don't use it as frequently around me, but younger kids seem to think it just means butt. Again this is just my experience and it could vary from place to place

It's what the kids are using in place of "God damn" when referring to something impressive.

[–] Freefall@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

as in Gyatt Dayum
