Please don’t do this to me. The whole point of a console is convenience, and it’s not like you had to test for multiple platforms. You control the hardware.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago (3 children)

They have what, 3 variants of the console? Regular, Slim, Pro?

Meanwhile on PC...

[–] BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No. They have 1 model with 2 cases. They use the same internal components, but the slim has a more compact cooling solution.

Only difference specs-wise is that the Slim has a ~1 TB SSD compared to the ~850 GB SSD

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Thank you for the correction! I thought it was like the PS3 where there was different hardware inside the different models. Well, some of them.

...but wait, if all the internals are the same size, why wasn't the regular one the size of the Slim? Is it just space from having the disc drive removed?

[–] BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sorry for the late answer!

The slim uses 300 W, the normal one 350W.

Why? - They simply redesigned the motherboard (to make it smaller and more efficient, produces less heat), they used a 6nm chip instead of a 7nm chip (same power, but less heat generated), they oped for a more passive cooling solution.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Is changing the one chip enough to count it as separate hardware to test?

Not to mention that different cooling capabilities could result in different performance, too.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They only have 2 currently.

Pro isn't out yet.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're probably testing on it though

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 2 months ago

Probably even more so than what's currently in people's hands, based on the news article here. lol

Im a pc user, and the pc world is still a lot more complex than just "regular, slim and pro" versions. Different hardware and combinations males it a lot more complex.
You could say "low, medium and high end pc" but that means nothing as even a medium pc could have different cpu's, gpu's or even ram timings...

But yes, the different console versions is stupid

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Yes, that was my point, haha

[–] gnutard@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Stop giving these companies your money!

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Microsoft and Sony? I mean, I get it. All major corporations are fucking monsters. But…sometimes giving those particular companies no money is pretty damn hard. Money goes into their pockets from more places than you’d expect. Also, what, are you gonna suggest some ethical indie console?

[–] gnutard@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Well, it's your choice, I don't give either company my money. I'd suggest switching to Linux and start pirating everything.

[–] sean_lemmy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Pirating still shows companies that their product has demand/value

You're better off switching to Indie games only to really protest the game publishers

[–] emeralddawn45@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago

I mean not really. Even if they have a rough idea of how many times their game has been pirated by looking at seeder counts on torrents or whatever, theyre definitely not taking those numbers as a win and saying "look how many people didnt pay for our product, that just proves everyone really wants it". Theyre comparing sales numbers.

[–] Soup@lemmy.cafe 2 points 2 months ago

So you built your own cross compatible gaming system?

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The PS5 shit show continues.

[–] Lemonparty@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I love my PS5 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] Trollception@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Same. I love my PS5 and have had almost no issues at all with it. I also love my PC but I use them for different purposes.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world -2 points 2 months ago

The last console I owned was a megadrive and I still don't feel I ever missed out on anything at all.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I wonder what causes it because i updated fine and have been playing wukong with no lag.

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Not all games were affected l

Edit: nvm me dumb

[–] teft@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Wukong is one of the mentioned games.

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 3 points 2 months ago

Oh look, someone at Sony decided to update the AMD graphics drivers included without first testing every combination to find the specific driver that actually works.....

[–] Soup@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 months ago

I’m sure they’ll work it out.
