jesus-cleanse Conservatives Christians really think this image of Jesus is about him going into the temple to throw out all the woke they/them liberals using the lord's house to eat avocado toast and complain about climate change or some shit

[–] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

How conservative christians became the greatest opponent of environmentalism will likely forever remain a mystery for me. If there is one thing worth conserving it would be gods creation surely?

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Same way they can look at the metaphor for capitalists are destined for hell a la stuffing a camel through the eye of a needle unharmed - by choosing to interpret the eye of a needle to actually mean a gate arch or some shit.

Instead of changing yourself to follow the beliefs in the word of your God, you change your God's words to follow your beliefs.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 1 points 9 months ago

And a lot of anti-environmentalists are hunters and farmers. Like... ¿¿¿What???

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago

You missed the part where they said, "No I don't, but I'll ruin your life if you teach it!"

It's only taught in higher ed, so this clearly didn't happen. /s

"Conservative Christian" is and oxymoron but having never read any Jesus, its easy to identify that way.

First of all you don't become a conservative Christian by being willing to read. So lets imagine DeSantis misspoke and said "The only way to ensure that Trump can violate The Constitution and overthrow our democracy is to read the New Testament and understand it"

Here are some probable outcomes:

  • They see that Jesus is a leftist and can no longer call themselves Christian, when asked their religion they say "none, atheiest".
  • They see that Jesus is a leftist and conclude that the bible was simply written by leftists and that it isn't true.
  • They see that Jesus has good ideas, unconsciously redefine what conservative means to them, and stay quiet until someone they considerd a friend angrily calles them a libtard for stating one of jesuses teachings in disagreement of something thet had repeated from facebook.
  • They see that Jesus is a leftist, they trust in their lord choosing his love and reason over the hatred and fear of man and can no longer call themselves a conservative.
  • They conclude that Pontius Pilate and the Roman government where the good guys and Jesus was an evil libtard who earned his crusofiction and they start worshoping Pilate instead.
  • The whole thing goes over the readers head
  • They strengthen their belief by ignoring parts that clearly don't fit their belief, and twisting anything that can kind of fit their beliefs.

It’s sad really. This post was the final straw for me. I’ll be unsubscribing. I saw the same thing happen dankmemes. Post after post of politically charged, right leaning nonsense. My tinfoil hat says it’s intentional to kill Lemmy, and honestly it’s working.

Yes, this post when interpreted as ironic, is making fun of socialism and CRT. Regardless it is leveraging oft used conservative boogeymen buzzwords for a joke. It dilutes the original use of the words, and whether or not intended, degrades their meaning. It’s a very common tactic of fascism and hard right actors. It’s exactly what Trump did when assuming the ‘fake news’ moniker and repurposing it to attack media. This entire site has been circling the drain for some time, and the downvotes just prove none of you value actual discussion.

[–] Alto@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The point of the post couldn't have gone any further over your head if it had wings

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you read what I’m saying, the intent matters not. It’s the use sarcastically or not in a joking way that plays right into right leaning agenda. But please keep attacking me.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The fact that it uses sarcasm and mentions CRT doesn't automatically mean it's right leaning. Left leaning people could find this meme funny.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Again, it’s their use in a joke that delivers the whole discussion around CRT into the shitter, enabling right wing agenda. They’re not out to win the argument, they’re out to muddy the waters.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So by that logic, we shouldn't make any political jokes anymore? This is getting awfully close to censorship.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I didn’t block you from making the joke. That’s censorship. I merely pointed out the problem in doing so and that I’m done with it. Take pepe, see how the right ran with that to the point it represents racism.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I didn’t block you from making the joke. That’s censorship.

I know, and that's why I didn't say it was actually censorship. Just really close.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Not close at all, but ok.

[–] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think you're alienating your allies here. This is clearly intended to be left leaning, and you're lumping OP with Trump and facists.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No. I’m saying OP is playing right into their hands, liberal or whatever they are.

[–] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Okay, so, I am reading what you're saying, and I don't really know how one could make a joke that isn't, by your understanding, part of the conservative agenda.

And if that's what you think, I am curious why you're looking at memes at all.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There’s a universe of thing’s worth joking about, but this post just serves political agendas, mostly right wing ones, and isn’t funny. CRT has become such a punching bag it’s lost all meaning. I’ve had the experience of my (very different) field of study becoming a political football, and the end result was the field suffering for years afterwards. Those setbacks are due to the right wing of political discourse choosing to meme the subject and make it political. The very act of targeting it was the main transgression, but subsequent meming on both sides only dragged things down further.

[–] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So, telling people to not try and be funny, even those you agree with, is definitely alienating your allies. I hear what you're saying, but I have also seen parents losing their ever loving shit at PTA meetings... And to say that everyone must treat those ignorant displays with quiet respect, because CRT was mentioned... Seems a bit beyond the pale.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So I spoke up to try and explain to this group the pitfall of continuing the jokes on this particular subject. Likewise everyone should speak up at PTA meetings despite the flack. Not certain my work is being appreciated by the local memelords here.

[–] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Well, some advice you didn't ask for, and that I don't always follow: it's easier to start a conversation where it is, and direct people towards the productive conversation you want to have, than to start off by calling someone a villain for something they already said. You didn't make your point easy to appreciate.

I will say you've given me some food for thought, though.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Fair, and I certainly got people’s attention.

[–] Ecksell@lemmy.one 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Critical race theory, assuming you’re not a clown.

[–] Dick_Justice@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be honest it sounds like you don't want people to mock conservatives, and that's a tough ask when they make it so easy.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Sort of. I’m saying mocking only lowers the overall dialogue into the shitter, which doesn’t serve the purpose you think. It may make you feel morally superior, but does nothing to fix the issue, and arguably further entrenches the two sides.

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What are you on and where can I get some

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

The downvotes only validate I’m right that this site is in the shitter. You just assume because the message is liberal, it doesn’t play into right leaning agendas.

[–] leraje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)
  1. It's not right leaning
  2. You unsubbing is not going to kill Lemmy
[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Lemmy was already dying, just look at plots of active users since the Reddit API flap. It’s going down not up. The sooner it does, the sooner a stronger decentralized platform, or newer version of Lemmy, can take it’s place. It’s current iteration is a rickety Reddit clone that suffers from rolling defederation.

9 hours old, +600 upvotes, no comments.🤔 And you came here for this lousy comment...

[–] example@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

seems to be a federation issue for you, I see 90+ comments (reported by client, not counted), earliest from 9h ago

[–] qwerty@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Can we make c/politicalmemes and keep this sort of content there? It's clearly a point of division in the community, we should be more accommodating for apolitical folks.

[–] iByteABit@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's no such thing as 'apolitical'. The very idea of leaving politics to our superior politicians is what brought us and keeps us in this state.

This is not at all a political issue however. This is about not being a trash human being. Being racist is not a political opinion, it's spreading hatred in the world and being a waste of skin.

[–] qwerty@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not arguing for or against of what the post says, I'm only saying that the designated place for funny cat pictures is probably not the right place for a meaningful discussion, sharing opinions, education or anything else but funny cat pictures.

When i browse c/memes I want to see easily digestible posts that will make me exhale through my nose, not deep, thought provoking walls of text.

[–] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

If you think this post is deep and thought provoking then I don't know what to tell you. It just makes fun of american conservatives and that's it. This post is literally just "conservatives dumb", as easily digestible as I've ever seen.

[–] Squirrel@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 year ago

Ah yes, the political issue of education and racism.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

It brings me no joy to say this, but everything is political.
