I bought Tunic and Crosscode.

I jumped straight into Tunic, and am having a great time. I recently finished Outer Wilds and was wanting another knowledge based progression game.

[–] pipariturbiini@sopuli.xyz 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Enjoy, both OW and Tunic are up there in my favourite games. Return of the Obra Dinn is another good one, if you didn't play it already.

Chasing after that same high, I bought the newest versions of Myst and Riven, never played the originals. Quite stumped in the first level of Myst. I feel like I may enjoy Riven more, but gonna try and stick with Myst first.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago

Return of the Obra Dinn is on my list, but I haven't played it yet. I did play through Forgotten City earlier this year, and it was really good.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Crosscode is absolutely amazing and is one of my favorite games ever.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago

That's what people keep telling me. It's been $6 on GoG for months now, but I really wanted it in steam instead. And thankfully, it finally went on sale for $6 on Steam as well.

[–] Jessica@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Did you also get recommended the "Metroid Brainia" video on YouTube a few days ago? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JA3UAYgd5Nw

I also just bought Tunic and Outer Wilds! Tunic is great so far

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago

I did, but I haven't actually watched it yet. I've been wanting to buy tunic/ow for years now.

[–] PrinzKasper@feddit.org 6 points 4 months ago (4 children)

I bought FH4 since they announced it'll be delisted by the end of the year. I've previously played it a lot via gamepass, but despite the fact that it doesn't have Cross-Progression with the Steam version I still bought it on Steam so I could play it on Steam deck. Medium settings run at 60fps!

Other than that my backlog is big enough that I will abstain from the sale. Recently finished The Werecleaner (short and funny free game) and Black Mesa. Now playing CrossCode, FEZ and Nightmare Kart.

[–] airbussy@lemmy.one 4 points 4 months ago

Playing FH4 too, trying to get all the playlist related achievements before it's too late 😋

One thing I've noticed is that you can't be signed in from two places, so if you decide to play on desktop after playing on the deck, you need to sign in again...

I picked up quite a few games - Deathsmiles, DoDonPachi Resurrection, Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Mushihimesama, ProtoCorgi, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, TMNT Shredder's Revenge and Ultrakill.

I've only played ProtoCorgi so far and I kinda love it - I mean, you're a corgi, barking or shooting lasers at various enemies in space, what's not to love?
I've already played most of the other games before and wanted to own them on Steam, except for Ultrakill (and I'm really looking forward to that one).

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can't be the only one who bought Animal Well

[–] PrinzKasper@feddit.org 4 points 4 months ago

I bought it when it released and loved it, very cleverly designed and works perfectly on Steam Deck. Also just for fun, try swiping across the touchscreen...

[–] Phegan@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Balatro and Balatro. It's so good

[–] anti@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Completed my first run today!

I bought Baldur's Gate 3, Deep Rock Galactic and Undertale.

Right now, I am trying to get into Mass Effect 3, but I think I need a little break from it after completing ME2.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 months ago

The new season of DRG has suckered me back in, and some more of my friends just bought it as well. I hope you have a good time with it, it's possibly my favorite game of all time.

[–] airbussy@lemmy.one 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Bought Dicey Dungeons as a good one to play on Deck. I can run it with the TDP on the GPU set to 3w, which increases the battery lifespan impressively, while still running great! Plus the game itself lends itself well to the deck I'd say.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago

Great game, I've now bought it on 3 different platforms which is rare for me.

[–] Velonie@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I bought Balatro, Neon White, GRIS, Rollerdrome, and Pentiment. They're all under $15 CAD and I've sunk a few hours into Balatro already

I bought Reus 2 (A puzzle god game) at launch last month - game changer!

Finally a game that I enjoy playing on the deck and actually want to play after work on my commute etc. highly recommend it.

[–] sunred@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago

I picked this up last month, and it's a blast.

[–] tiberius@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. Logged in at least 21 hours in it. It's also at that price point where you feel indifferent if you don't like it.

I bought two games:

  • The farmer was replaced - a simple Idle game, where you need to use a Python like code to automate a farming drone with farming hat that is doing the farming for you and the complexity of the tasks is increasing progressively. This game is in early access and has no discount but the price is 7€, so hardly breaking the bank.
  • European Truck Simulator 2 - because it was just 2€ and it looks chill, even though I am not much into car racing games.
[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The farmer was replaced sounds pretty interesting, I'll check it out.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Yes, it is a cool little game, definitely worth the consideration for experienced and beginner programmers.

So far just Juno: New Origins

I've been mostly playing:

  • Noita
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Oxygen Not Included

Will pick up Juno when I get a chance to play when I'm not dead tired.

[–] sunred@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Deep Rock Galactic

Since a few people already mentioned it in this thread, are you playing it on Deck? It's one of the main games I play with a few buddies regularly but I always found it to be a bit cumbersome on a handheld but maybe that's because I generally dislike fps with a controller (even if using gyro).

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Agreed. I experimented heavily with different control options and had special configs for all classes and even for some weapon sets. Some things were really good, others remained combersome. Also used the steam controller.

In toughest lvl 5 moments, no tweaking was enough. It was "OK" if you were on the road and with shitload of practice it might have been great.

In the end, I've done most of my playing with Dock + keyb + trackball + external display.

[–] Malunga@derpzilla.net 4 points 4 months ago

I'm finally playing Elex on my steam deck (started like three times on my stationary PC, but never came close to finish). So I bought Elex 2.

[–] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Stray

Binding of Isaac Rebirth

Disco Elysium

Dark Souls Remastered (don't think it was even on sale, but I have never played a souls game and was told this was a good place to start)

Basically a bunch of big hits that I never got around to. I'm starting with Stray, it's relaxing and fun. I played a little Dark Souls, but I need to come back to that when I have more time to focus.

I was also looking at Death must Die. I played the shit out of Vampire Survivors, and I've heard DMD is more of the same.

Last big StamDeck game for me was Hades 2. Loved the original and 2 was just as fun. I know it's not fully complete, but I unlocked everything available and upgraded most of the gear all the way. I can't wait for the full release.

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I bought The Falconeer yesterday, haven't played it yet, I'm looking at my wishlist and considering more options

[–] Whitebrow@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Consider refunding and grabbing it for free from epic in a few days? Granted that would require you to tinker with the deck a bit to install from the other stores besides steam, if you’re up for it

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 3 points 4 months ago

Oh that's a good tip, thanks!

[–] Templa@beehaw.org 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I bought Hyperspace Outlaw. My spouse already played it but it is so big that I want to see the stuff he didn't find. I also fucking love Zane's page music.

I got an OLED the other day and splurged hard during the summer sale.

I got Stray and Little Kitty, Big City to show off to my cat-loving GF, and for me I got Dave the Diver, Sifu, and Babu is You. Also picked up Hollow Knight for good measure, but have yet to start it. 9 Sols, Mullet Madjack, Warhammer Boltgun, Baldurs Gate 3, and Return of the Obra Dinn all on my wishlist.

[–] WilfordGrimley@linux.community 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

King Hearts Final Mix (the entire collection)
It Takes Two
V Rising

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I had some friends who were huge into Kingdom Hearts growing up, so I'm kinda curious about playing it now that it's on Steam. However the numbering of the series makes it really unclear what games I need to play to experience the core story.

[–] WilfordGrimley@linux.community 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The release order does the best job of revealing information in an entertaining way. You can safely just watch cut scenes for the non numbers games (1.5, 2.5 and 3 are mainline most important)

For me playing through is a big nostalgia trip. The writing isn't great and the gameplay in Chain of Memories is extremely annoying for the first few hours but I am happy to be able to go hang with all of the Disney characters I did when I was a kid and I finally get to play KH3!!!

[–] Father_Redbeard@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago

Fallout 76. Got hooked after watching the show and went through the previous 3d games back to back. Also bought Undertale but haven't fully committed to that one yet.

[–] Zahtu@feddit.de 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Bought Everspace 2 (but on GOG) and so far it's playing great, even though power consumption is still quite high. But it's great for a session of about 1-2 hours, which I am fine with. Otherwise still playing wandering Village from the last sale and a bit of LotR RtM.

[–] graymess@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Psychonauts 2. Was a huge fan of the original on PS2 and I can't believe it's taken me years to try the sequel. The animation, level design, and writing are all at the level of quality and creativity that I wanted to see videogames progress to some day when I was a kid. This is a playable DreamWorks film.

Bought several to share through Family Beta, but the two for me were Bravely Default II and Catlateral Damage. Played the first two Bravely games on the DS, and the other game I got just looks like fun.

As for what I'm playing? Backlog 😅 When I'm in the mood for story rich I'm playing Death Stranding. When I'm in the mood for just something fun I'm playing Peglin.

[–] Pofski@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Dome keeper. It's a really fantastic game.

[–] donio@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Backpack Battles. It's an inventory management based auto-battler. Chill game and I like spatial puzzle a lot.
The game uses the Godot engine and it runs great on the deck. The UI is very smooth and thoughtfully designed.
A neat thing about the battle system is that it's fully asynchronous. No matchmaking delay and it even works offline. I believe it works by preloading a number of opponent-builds at the beginning of the run.

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

sad there's no visions of mana community here but i haven't put it down since i got it on thursday. it runs great on the steamdeck :)

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago

i've only bought one right before the steam sale but i have a bunch i'm considering later this week with payday. :)

before the steam sale i got secret of mana and i've been enjoying it so much (as someone who played the og so much at my friends house growing up)

i'm also considering final fantasy 13, final fantasy 12, two point campus/hospital, trials of mana, MAYBE jedi fallen order but it is an ea game so eehhh, fable, and tbh i'm thinking about the south park suite of games just for a dumb, stupid mindless steam deck game :)

it's also not steam deck compatible but i'm also thinking about pro wrestling sim since i loved tew.

[–] jherazob@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

After letting them pass many times (well, one of them, the other's more recent), this time i said "Meh, let's do it this time" and got Untitled Goose Game and Little Kitty, Big City. Both got me hooked immediately, did all the achievements for the kitty and nearly all for the goose (there's some for speedrunning, and I'm not really into doing that, so likely those achievements are gonna stay undone forever). Both were fun and would recommend them.
