spotify is a terrible company. at this point i feel like they have brand hostages rather than brand loyalty. i dont know anybody whos actually happy with the spotify experience any more.

It was really hard to pull off the bandage but I finally did it. It was really death by 1000 cuts but the last one for me was when they started injecting ads (not the baked-in ads, mind you) into podcasts. Apparently paying for Spotify to remove ads to them only meant removing ads from the music. To insult their users like that was enough for me.

I believe ads in podcasts are the doing of the folks making the podcast, not spotify.

No, what GP means is that some podcasts have an ad break, and Spotify will inject ads relevant to your region/demographic, even if you pay for premium.

This isn't the host reading copy from their sponsors which, fair enough, would be hard to strip out in many cases.

That’s how most podcasts work. Doesn’t matter what app you’re using.

[–] yuri@pawb.social 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah see I was under the impression that it’s still the show’s choice, like if you don’t have sponsor deals you can just let spotify inject ads and get paid for that instead.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

But we're paying for no ads. Spotify could give them a slice of the premium money.

That’s honestly a good idea, but I reckon they’d probably give em a real shit rate like they already do with artists.

The thing that really gets my goat is getting a fucken full screen ad for some random mainstream new release.

the full screen ads for irrelevent (to you) music is one of my biggest gripes. Spotify i've never listened to a Taylor Swift song in my life, i don't give a shit if she has a new album and you know that!

Are they serious? What a slap in the face to people that bought in.

They are just giving more arguments for piracy.

I'm still salty about Spotify quietly removing support for my Pioneer head unit (along with others) shortly after the Car Thing came out. Luckily I took the hint and cancelled my subscription and haven't looked back.

#supportOrOpensource should be a thing. Either you support the damn thing or you opensource it. Doesn't have to be XOR. Simply turning it into e-waste should not be allowed.

Been using Deezer(competitor to Spotify) for about 6 months now. Love the hifi audio. All my songs/playlists were moved over pretty effortlessly.

Fuck Spotify.
