Animated webp's: Am I a joke to you?

Gifs are insanely inefficient, hosting them on volunteering instances would be pointless extra cost. Lemmy can already do both animated webp files and it even has an embedded player if you use a direct link to a video file.

A converter would be great tho. Sure, would cost a bit of CPU after upload but then it's just storing and distributing webp.

Could also be implemented in WebAssembly on different frontends.

It could perhaps be an opt-in mode for instance hosters.

Two Kermits (frog) for video support.

Kermit shall fall, Elmo shall rise once more.

This shit ass site doesn't even allow me to upload still images because of some undisclosed file size limit.
