"Back in my day" people protested knowing that they'd get arrested. I don't know why this has apparently been forgotten and they're surprised by the arrests? Is the civil rights movement not taught in schools anymore? As long as we avoid another Kent State this is just how it's always worked. Whining about it by the protesters just shows a lack of understanding in regards to how the world works. Have they not even seen Greta Thunberg getting arrested? Amateurs!

Is the civil rights movement not taught in schools anymore?
My dude, have you not been paying attention? Schools and education have been under attack for decades now. I live in a fairly liberal area and even we didn't get a good history education past WWII.
I don't think the protesters were upset or concerned that they got arrested. After reading the article, it seems that the students fully knew what they were protesting for.
The only person that seemed shocked or surprised was the professor who commented that "...this is more horrifying than anything I’ve ever seen here”.
Edit: I also wanted to add that the Civil Rights movement was taught to me, I was in high school within this decade, but just like any other irresponsible, nascent high schooler I was daydreaming about my crush and just not paying attention to anything. The many self-faults of man.
