If it was in the US, it would quickly turn into palworld.

[–] Toribor@corndog.social 47 points 8 months ago (4 children)

I haven't played Palworld but I'm told that you can capture people and force them to work for you. So technically the US is already ahead of this.

[–] Midnight1938@reddthat.com 18 points 8 months ago

I think he meant pocket monsters with guns

[–] thirteene@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

That is correct, you can capture mercenaries for combat, and townsfolk can be relocated to your base (although risky)

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Bitchin cool!

[–] EvolvedTurtle@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

The only thing I know from palworld Is a screenshot of a bunch of pals sitting in front of a conveyer belt and another screenshot of a pal with a gun

[–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 78 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There would be no rioting in the US. Just corporations scamming you with „insurance”

[–] Cosmonaut_Collin@lemmy.world 66 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The U.S. has been trained to see protesting as a bad thing, so now we all just take the hits and blame neighbors whose political values don't line up with ours.

[–] Signtist@lemm.ee 34 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's amazing how many people I meet who think so highly of the American revolution, but are completely aghast at the idea of fighting against the government now.

[–] BlemboTheThird@lemmy.ca 19 points 8 months ago (2 children)

While simultaneously opposing any form of gun control so they can fight... something?

Apparently the only protest worth anything is one where you're shooting at someone

[–] Cosmonaut_Collin@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Shooting at people is an American tradition. We can't let our kids forget what this nation was built upon.

[–] EnderMB@lemmy.world 54 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Someone should make a ROM hack where Pokémon centres charge a game-world fee equivalent to what a person would pay for healthcare for serious injuries in the US, with insurance and loan sharks.

[–] Hello_there@kbin.social 67 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (6 children)

Do the rom hack right.

  • Toll roads everywhere. Paid each time you enter.
  • Pokemart is a monopoly and gouges you.
  • Arceusism is the state religion and others are barely tolerated.
  • Gyms are privatized and cost per attempt.
  • Pokemon sweatshops.
  • PC access is a freemiun model where you get the first 5 for free, but beyond that you have to pay for Pokestorage+ and pay monthly. Also pokes come out hating you so pretty sure they getting abused. And occasionally pokes get lost.
[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Cost per attempt? Gyms require an annual membership fee, and good luck ever canceling

[–] besbin@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 8 months ago

The fee is just to "challenge" the gym master for your badge. You still have to pay the subscription to even get into the door.

[–] shinratdr@lemmy.ca 17 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Pokémon Sweatshops

I think that was literally a plot point in one of the earlier games or anime? That one will be easy to adapt, just make Team Rocket the heroes for being shrewd businesspeople and you the villain for daring to question the will of the free market.

[–] Hello_there@kbin.social 11 points 8 months ago

And all the rocket goons are just police protecting the capitalists

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 15 points 8 months ago

Some of your items no longer function as the company that makes them went out of business

[–] CooperRedArmyDog@lemmy.ml 14 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Dont forget its a defacto state religion not dejure ... just to make it more infurating

[–] Sharkictus@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

In fact where it is dejure religion, nobody actually follows it or believes it.

[–] EvolvedTurtle@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Wait That last one is just Pokemon home lmao

[–] MisterD@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 months ago

Make it so that you can appeal the results of battles

[–] httperror418@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I read the end part there as Bender "with blackjack and hookers"

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 26 points 8 months ago (10 children)

Why would they pokemon be on the side of the government during riots? Are pokemon stupid?

[–] Jorgelino@lemmy.ml 55 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

I mean, why would pokemon be on the side of team rocket or whatever other villainous (often apocalyptic) group the games have? They just follow whoever catches them no matter what.

[–] TheRTV@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

Exactly. In game, Pokemon follow people of a certain strength.

[–] root_beer@midwest.social 30 points 8 months ago

There’s a documentary that may help explain this, iirc it’s called Paw Patrol

[–] rwhitisissle@lemmy.ml 27 points 8 months ago

Have you never heard of police dogs?

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 25 points 8 months ago (6 children)

Why wouldn't they? Team Rocket/MagmAqua/Galactic/Plasma/Flare all have pokemon fighting with them. They listen to the trainer, not the moral obligation of the society.

Why are suffering lower/middle class people opposed to protests for better social security and medical systems? Are they stupid?

But fr tho sometimes people are just blind. If you have been a slave (pokemon) for life then its hard to break your chains.

[–] ClockworkOtter@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

Yo, the last major outbreak of violence against the government was when the far right lost an election. This is pretty damn on the ball.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

A price on healing means my trainer won't be so inclined to make me fight!

Fun fact: This happens in Pokemon Sun and Moon, when Team Skull takes over one of the towns. They charge a whopping 10 Pokedollars.

Charizard used Eat the Rich. It's super effective!

[–] lemmy_nightmare@sh.itjust.works 9 points 8 months ago
[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 9 points 8 months ago

PokeRiot would totally turned into an all out civil war. I wonder if they have a signal jammer but for pokeball? 🤔

[–] le_throosh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 8 months ago

Omg, I love this

[–] SSJ2Marx@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

If course Blastoise would be a cop.

Not like anarchist queen Charizard or vegan king Venusaur.

[–] RedQuestionAsker2@hexbear.net 5 points 8 months ago

I'll give you Venusaur but Charizard is a dyed in the wool fascist.

[–] witheyeandclaw@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The guy that made Trailer Park Alien did a short about this. https://youtu.be/DJWooGhvSl8?si=U4mePYgRrJ7H_RVg

Choosing squirtle makes you a cop, I will take no further questions
