I had no idea who this guy even was until just now. Was he really popular in leftist circles or something?

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

No one heard of him until maybe a couple months ago. I don't think he has DSA connections or anything. Went directly from some extremely obscure local office to Bernie endorsement and liberal media circuit. Seems very artificial to rise so quickly, with no apparent difficulty, and no opposition from Dem establishment.

Screams op all by itself even without considering all the nazi shit

Is this the guy Hassan has been talking about recently? Or was that someone else?

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

yeah thats him. fwiw Hasan has not been a tattoo defender, and seems to no longer be a fan of this guy. Low bar but good to see.

Kinda seems like a fumble inherent to the medium. If you're just gonna stream of consciousness into a camera for hours on end, you're inevitably gonna eat crow on a half-formed opinion that was rushed out to fill dead air. Aping the style of cable news, but without the hundreds of hours of behind-the-camera labor that goes into making it all look off the cuff and effortless.

Surprising given his takes on Ukraine. He seemed to think that "russia being so bad" justifies "Ukrainian communists and nazis working together" - which is honestly repulsive if know what happened with Ukrainian communists during the maidan coup.

fine with him being a war criminal though

I like how it's the nazi tats that made this dude change his mind and not how he was a piece of shit genocidal "soldier" who went on 5 different tours

Aren't the Dems running an old lady against him? I thought that's why there was so much hubbub, it seems like it's a contested primary (otherwise it makes the people covering for this Nazi even more embarrassing)

yeah, the primary is really reflecting the two factions inside the party: 95 year old centrists who can no longer walk or speak, vs fake leftists who turn into raging right-wingers at the first opportunity, but maintain "populist" cultural signifiers. A big part of the party is backing the 2nd strategy apparently.
