I am not even sure what the US government expects to achieve by limiting them at this point. I could see it being used for negotiating with China on trade, but these guys are inherently not capable of any of that.
This is classic underdevelopment, like how Europe and the US deliberately withheld vital equipment and machinery from Africa to prevent them from building their own industrial base.
It's obviously way too late for this tactic to make any sense, though. China can't be underdeveloped, they're becoming a tech leader at this point.
they're not though. they might manufacture for the whole world, but they're still not the go-to for advanced tech. They're sure trying to catch up fast though.
If they were to lead anything, it'll just amount to a bully passing a baton to another bully.
Lol. They still need to sell their products to someone.
But go to China and you'll see that they have the lead on cars and numerical technologies. They bring to market and adopt faster than anyone else.
They have 17% of the world's population within their own borders. They have plenty of customers.
There are still huge disparities and not every Chinese citizen is a potential customer.
They still need foreign markets...
Europe has roughly half the population, but pretty much a similar consumer market for instance.
