I’ve been replaying Gold on my game it color. I just beat the elite 4 and started going through the Kano gyms.

The elite 4 battles, were tough and it was really close. I genuinely was feeling the tension as I landed my last few hits.

The Kanto gyms seem really easy so far. Much easier than the elite 4, so that’s a bit disappointing.

I did decide against fighting red after getting the badges. I estimate my team will be around level 50 when I finish getting the ka to badges and I do not want to grind 20 levels to match red’s level.

After this, I’m going to play emerald, which I’ll emulate on my 3ds. I’m really looking forward to it as it seems like a huge technological leap compared to red > gold.

I played these games as a kid, but only have good memories of red, I had 0 memory of gold, and I have 0 memories of emerald. I never played the platinum generation so I’m extremely excited for that one.

You can tell that Kanto was an afterthought by how easy it is in comparison, it was still great though

I assumed it was less of an after thought and more of a, we are running out of space thing.

Is still amazing that they put the most of the region in there.

I think it was a combination of more space on the cartridge and better compression algorithms. The rumour was that Iwata wrote some miraculous code that produced enough space to include Kanto too, but I think that's apocryphal.
