nothing about this or ukraine's situation is fair.
nato is a threat to russia, ukraine was fooled into thinking that they could join nato so the russians responded like how americans responded to cuba or mexico, or agentina, or chile when they tried to join the russians or peru or bolivia or paraguay when they try to join china.
russia and nato are dominant powers for now and like all dominant powers in the past; they get to dictate what other countries can and can't do; it's all totally unfair and contortions aren't needed to understand this fact.

Ukraine has avoided joining nato as a part of the Budapest treaty with Russia the us and uk.
Until russia attacked Ukraine had no intention or hope of joining nato.
None of these Russian properganda excuses change the one clear fact.
Russia broke that treaty when they attacked not the Ukraine.
